Problems with HD-PVR and ArcSoft

Hi all,

I think this belongs in the HW support forum but feel free to move it if n/a here.

I am having problems getting a replacement HD-PVR running in the ArcSoft TME program with different HW hookup.

Here's the background: I just moved to a new house and just got DirecTV with H23-600 HD receivers (two of them).
Where I was living before I had DirecTV but only SD. I set up my SageTV server in that house using S-video and 2-channel audio on the front of the HD-PVR (a rev C1 early unit). It seemed to work fine.

Then I moved and got the new HD receivers so I'm trying to hook up the HD-PVR with component cable/2-channel audio (before I even think of trying SPDIF/5.1). I am still on the rev 1.0b drivers for the HD-PVR.

I have a revC2 HD-PVR that I'm trying to set up on the system with the new HD receivers. When I went into SageTV to set up the new video source, I deleted the old HD-PVR configuration from Sage and started fresh with the new unit. It got to the point where it asked which inputs on the HD-PVR I was using and I chose "component". When it tried to tune the HD-PVR Sage came up with an error that it could not see the audio stream (and I saw no video either).

I shut SageTV interface down and stopped the SageTV service. (This is on a Windows Home Server machine).
I then tried to tune the HD-PVR using the ArcSoft Total Media Extreme and it comes up with the error that "The device is not connected or another program is trying to use the device"

So here's all that I have done since then:
1) removed SageTV completely, even from the SW registry
2) run hwclean from the Arcsoft disc that came with PVR
3) uninstalled Arcsoft, removed directory, removed arcsoft SW registry
4) reloaded WHServer and reinstalled the HD-PVR drivers
5) reinstalled Arcsoft SW.

It STILL says that there is another device trying to use the HD-PVR!

I notice in the ArcSoft GUI it still shows "Svideo" and "front audio" as the input interfaces.
It seems to be storing this info somewhere so that even if I change the physical hookups it remembered the old settings (or are those the defaults??).
I can't get the Arcsoft SW to tune my HD-PVR.

Anyone ever have similar problems?

Thanks
Ian

Are you sure you have stopped the SageTV service? The only time I see this is when I have left the SageTV service running.

SageTV is completely uninstalled at this point, so no Sage service is running.
I also deleted the Frey Technologies folder in the registry.
Something is still holding on to that PVR resource though! It must be something in the registry somewhere is my only guess because I've tried installing/uninstalling the ArcSoft SW and HD-PVR drivers several times.

My next step is to reinstall Sage and hope that this somehow causes it to free up an old resource reservation somewhere.

I'm still open to any suggestions of course!

OK I discovered the problem. The main problem is the id10t behind the keyboard...

I mistakenly was trying to leave the server as headless and do some setup remotely. For some reason I was using remote dsktop connection. And although it may look like you are directly on the computer, you are in fact not on the "local system". So even though it let me do things like install/uninstall programs, it considers sending things like video to a remote desktop as a separate session or something. So that's why I was getting the access violations; any program using the tuner could not also send a copy of it to the remote desktop.

Anyway, after I connected monitor, keyboard, and mouse directly to the server machine I was able to control the HD-PVR w/o error. Whew...

Hopefully this thread will be of use to another newb like me not to do important stuff like video source setup from a remote desktop connection.
now to restore my Sage config...

This is confirmed on my install - must have monitor and keyboard and mouse connected to the EX470, in order to finish installation and access settings on the HD-PVR through TME. More info here:
