How do I disable HDTV on Client?

I have a dedicated server hook up to my big screen tv that can play HD. I also stream to my client computer in my bedroom. But the client can only play SD channel. Is there a way to disable the playback of HD on the client pc as it will crash my client since it only a P4 2ghz PC. Thanks

I don't think there's any way to disable HD playback. However the stock Sage interface will let you filter by HD/SD. I'm sure there's a way to do it in Sage MC as well but I've never tried since the TV I use it on does HD via HD100.

I have my placeshifter interface set up to only display SD shows this way for the same reason as you.

This is something I've been wondering about as well. Is there at least a way to filter certain stations (hopefully the HD ones, but any way to filter will do) from showing up in the Program Guide on a given client?

Try the favorite channels list stvi. It'll let you setup different lists of channels to show in the guide. You could have one list just be SD stations.

I can play HD on a P4 1.5 and an ATI 9600pro. You can try to limit it to SD or you can try to fix the playback. Make sure you have a good video card (a 9600pro is enough but a 9200 probably not) that supports DxVA acceleration and make sure you have acceleration enabled in your decoder.

The issue he's talking about isn't playback on the machine. It's transcoding the HD to SD for the SD extender/placeshifter machine. The graphics card isn't involved in the work (at least not yet), it's all CPU intensive. My 2.8 P4 won't do it either. Might be able to get away with it when I move the C2D over to my Sage machine down the road.

Also you can use the conversion to xvid and possibly get them playing. All mine seem to play fine on my MVP.

I don't see any mention of an extender or transcoding, just that the OP's client crashes.

The client should not crash (even if it's not up to the task, which it should be) with HD recordings.

What's the "crash"? A playback exception? SageTV crashing, hanging, or exiting? Bluescreen?
