New AMD Linux Drivers support UVD!?

I'm a linux newb just starting to play around with placeshifter & Ubuntu on an ATI 780g IG MB. In my research to get this thing going I ran across these links and thought it might be of interest to anyone with an ATI graphics card. If I understand it correctly, ATI linux drivers currently do not support the Unified Video Decoder (UVD) and therefore hardware decode of H.264 but this looks to be changing very soon.

BTW - is this why placeshifter "crashes" (closes immediately) when I enable 3D acceleration from the placeshifter settings menu?
