X264 encoded movies stutter, and DVDs show green bars
EDIT: Issue resolved!
Specs in sig on build, actually just reinstalled, using onboard video from GIGABYTE GA-MA78GM-S2H mobo. This started off with wanting to watch DVDs on Sage. However, every single DVD I put in shows large green bars across the right portion of the screen (see image). This is consistent for every DVD I use, though the bars have different designs. I'm using the Nvidia DVD decoder. DVDs play great full screen using Media Player or Media Player Classic. They only have issues within Sage. So, because of this, I tried to rip some of them to play back on the hard drive. I ripped them into MP4 using X264. These play back excellent in Media Player and Media Player Classic, but stutter constantly from within SageTV. In fact, even the animated transition of the info menus stutters when playing them. See video link below (2MB, MOV) http://www.thebaskins.com/albums/Tec...64_stutter.mov I ran a mediainfo against the file, here's the excerpts, in case it helps: Format : MPEG-4 Format profile : Base Media Codec ID : isom File size : 693 MiB Duration : 1h 53mn Overall bit rate : 857 Kbps Video Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : Main@L4.1 Codec ID : avc1 Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 763 Kbps Width : 656 pixels Height : 272 pixels Display aspect ratio : 2.412 Frame rate : 23.976 fps Resolution : 24 bits Scan type : Progressive Writing library : x264 core 58 svn-736M Audio Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format version : Version 4 Format profile : LC Format settings, SBR : No Codec ID : 40 Duration : 1h 53mn Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Resolution : 16 bits

What Sage Settings
Did you try changing any of the following settings
setup/detailed setup/DVD - Video Renderer (Default, Overlay, or VRM9). also look at the MPEG decoder setting I am using Cyberpower PDVD7 I had a similar but different scaling problem with DVD VOB playback and I had to switch the DVD renderer to VRM9. VRM9 for DVD playback is required if you want to see highlights on the DVD menu options. Kind Regards, Tony Last edited by OldPCGUY; 10-17-2008 at 05:13 PM. Reason: DRM9 to VRM9 |

Excellent advice, thank you. You've helped me resolve the issue.
I tried the different DVD video renderers. It was on VMR9, so I switched it to default. This put a zoomed in picture into a 4:3 box. I changed to video overlay and DVDs play perfect. I then checked the Video / Audio -> Video Renderer. This was set to VMR9, and I switched it to default. After making that change, my X264 videos played perfectly! Thank you!
