Hauppauge HD PVR remote non-functional.
I cannot get any sign of life from the IR remote that comes with the HD PVR. I have my old silver remote from the PVR-250 as well and it is unresponsive.
Does the HD PVR do anything to let you know it's picking up a signal? blinking lights or anything? Is there any test program to see if the hardware is working? The IR application is the most current and running. I've copied in the sagetv config lines, but even with sagetv close the remote should do some things - like switch tasks (alt-tab) etc as the default "application" specifies in the irremote.ini file. Also, when I open the IR Remote applett, should it be blank? The only thing in it is "close" I remember with my old pvr-250 when I opened it, it had a list of programs in it. To find out whether any Hauppauge IR receiver is working, restart ir.exe, open an empty files named debug.txt in Notepad, make sure it has focus, then press remote buttons & see if anything appears in the Notepad window.
If you have a Hauppauge tuner w/o an IR receiver, it is possible that ir.exe is trying to use that tuner's non-existent receiver. - Andy

No response from debug.txt. I really think that when you click the remote icon in the tray the window that comes up is supposed to have "things" in it. Mine is a big blank window that has exit and close buttons and that is it. This is the only reason why I think it might not be hardware.

Could someone with the hd pvr do me a favor and doulbe-click the remote icon in the tray and describe what the window looks like. As I said, mine is empty except for close / exit buttons.

Mine's empty as well. Can't be more help as I'm using a MCE remote with the HD-PVR.

Called support. He said debug.txt in notepad should work.
The remote can be checked by looking at the ir LED through a webcam, and it's funcational. SO it's most likely hardware. Sigh. I guess I'll be exchanging it. |

So I went to the store and picked up a 2nd HD PVR for testing and when I swapped the hardware, fired up notepad debug.txt the IR remotes worked perfectly. I reinstalled windows (to fix my BSOD and lockup issues) and upgraded the new HD PVR to 1.1. The next day when I tried the remote it didn’t work! I tested debug.txt, re-seated the power on the pvr, rebooted and nothing. Remote doesn’t work in any app.
Either I’m very unlucky or something is going on in software/firmware. Out of curiosity I hooked up my original PVR which was on the beta drivers and guess what, it started working again! So what’s the next step? It seems very doubtful that it’s hardware unless it’s heat sensitive or something. I did let it cool down for a half hour and it still didn’t work. I haven’t tried reverting the firmware yet. |

Ok I stumbled on some interesting info. The remote works right after windows starts before sage fires up. Once sagetv starts the remote stops working. Closing sage doesn't bring the remote back to functionality, even if I run the ir-restart program. When I installed sage I checked the box "install support for hauppague pvr-250 remote"
Should I NOT have selected that since I have a HD PVR? |

My remote hasn't worked since at least the Beta driver maybe since the last Sage upgrade.

Any update on this?
I installed the latest drivers from the get go and no response from my new remote. I have an older PVR250 card with the older remote and the PVR1212 and its new one. My old one is falling apart so I would love to get the new one working either using the old IR port on the 250 or even better the one built in to the new HD PVR.

You do have some sort of IR receiver right? The HD-PVR as provided doesn't work with the included remote (as noted on a piece of paper which came with my HD-PVR) without a seperate IR receiver. Sorry if this is a dumb reply and you already know this, but I wasn't clear from the above.

Two Happague tuners on the same server will usually cause an issue with the IR receiver(s). Whether one, the other or both have an IR receiver. Search the forums for the threads.

I'd like to see a picture of that note. I've had an on-going support issue with Hauppauge for a week now and he seems to think it should work. As a mater of fact it does work, until something accesses video on the hd-pvr, then it stops working until I reboot. |

I just assumed that the sensor it has and the remote it shipped with would work. Now given that I also do have a sensor set up that I've been using for years with the old 34 button remote. The old sensor and the old remote seem to function fine but the new remote doesn't respond at all no matter where I point it. And yes, I did point it at webcam to make sure it's powered and working. I will continue to use the old one until I figure it out but I would really like to be able to use the new one as my old one is falling apart. |

I didn't save the note; thanks for reminding me.
My interpretation at the time (and I probably spent about 1 second and 5 neurons thinking about it, since I didn't care about the remote) was that you needed some sort of IR receiver, but now that we're talking about it I could have been (probably am) wrong. You'd think Hauppauge would know if the remote should work or not so listen to them not me. |

take TME and Sage and any other PVR application out of the startup group. It may be in the registry under HKCU_Software\microsoft\windows\current version\run Then shutdown and power off the hd pvr, tun on the hd pvr and power up the pc. After windows loads create a text file called debug.txt and open it in notepad (it has to be notepad) If the remote is working notepad should show up with each button you push. If you have the same problem as me, the remote will work fine until TME or Sage starts up. |

So after reinstalling a few things, I've managed to get my old remote working on the new IR input on the HD-DVR. But the new remote still doesn't work.
I did the debug.txt thing and the 34button remote prints messages, the 45 button one does nothing. I got a second 45button remote from a friend and it does nothing as well. I also tried running it before sage and still nothing... So weird, I bet if you had an old 34 button it would work still. Update: Ok I've fixed it...its something in my old IRREMOTE.INI. I downloaded a new one from some other thread here and its now working with both remotes. Although now I have a new problem which is fullscreen isn't actually doing what its supposed to...working on it |

Can you attach your irremote.ini to here please? It doesn't sound like we have the same problem, but I'll try anything now. |

The only buttons that work on my Hauppauge remote are the play/stop/record/ffwd/frew and the skip buttons. Nothing else works on the remote even though the IR Blaster works for changing channels through Sage.
