Hauppauge remote - same key, different results
Been trying to move to the Harmony 676 remote. Installed a USB-UIRT, Sage sees it. Bought a 45 button Hauppauge remote to program the Harmony. You program the Harmony via Harmony's web site, set up devices and activities, learn the IR commands, etc. There's a learning curve but I'm slowly making my way.
That is, until now ... In Sage's Detailed Setup, in the Command section, you can see if an IR command is linked to a Sage function, very handy, they show up as unique 14 digit numbers. I was having some difficulty getting Sage to respond to the IR commands witch caused me to observe something strange. Whenever I hit a button on the remote I will get one of two 14 digit numbers, "X" & "Y". Hit the button once, out comes the "X" command, a second press yields "Y", a third time back to "X", etc. One was linked to a Sage function, the other was not. No wonder Sage was having difficulty. Initally I thought I screwed up the Harmony learning function so I tried the original Hauppauge 45 button remote, same thing. Has anyone else seen this ? Do I have a bad 45 button remote ? Can't imagine it's supposed to be like this. Tried other remotes and one button - one code. And then I remembered, I have a second Hauppauge remote used with the MVP, and guess what, multiple codes ! What gives ?? Ken C |

It's not uncommon for a remote to send 2 codes for each button. The MCE remotes do the same thing. Just link both codes for the button to the Sage command.

Like blade said: this is perfectly normal & you simply have to teach both codes to SageTV. The Hauppauge remotes use the RC5 IR protocol & I believe MCE remotes use RC6. These protocols use a toggle bit to help the devices recognize when you are holding a button down vs. pressing it repeatedly. The 2nd code is only emitted when you press the same button multiple times in a row.
