HD Extender + HD-PVR + Dish Network Question...
I'm trying to figure out a solution for being able to view the recorded content on my dish network VIP622 in high definition on two (or more) tvs. Now - I understand it only has a single tv output in HD - so I could only ever watch one HD program at a time - but my question is this:
Has anyone tried using the HD-PVR as a tuner for the VIP622 and then used the HD Media Streamer to view the output on a secondary tv? If so - does it work well? How well does the IR-blaster work for doing things like changing channels, doing the 30-second skip, etc etc? basically my situation is that I have my Vip622 in my basement hooked up to a projector - but I'd like to be able to watch content from it in high def in my bedroom as well... if anyone has any other suggestions for a setup that could work i'm all ears :-). Thanks in advance for any advice. |

To put it most simply, the combo you mention (or SageTV specifically) doesn't give you control over your sat box from another TV, it replaces you controlling the sat box and does it for you.
Sage isn't setup to control another DVR like you're in front of it. Sage is setup to replace your DVR, it manages the recordings, scheduling, guide, and just uses your STB as a tuner. For that, you're looking more at a Slingbox type device. |

Maybe I'm just hoping for too much from one solution... I do currently have an HTPC in my basement as well - so was hoping for a solution that would allow me to either watch videos from the HTPC or HD video from my STB. I guess it sounds like what the HDPVR would give me is simply the ability to record the current output of the STB onto my HTPC -- but then it'd basically turn my STB into a single tuner (i.e. would lose the ability it currently has to record 2 satellite streams + an ATSC stream). Correct, Sage doesn't route remote commands directly to the STB.
