Hard Drive Usage

Recently added a 750gb hard drive There are now five drives in the system, the newly added 750gb, a 500gb, a 400gb and two 300gb. The 750, 500, and 400 are being used, not much happening on the two 300's. Looks like Sage is trying to equalize the 'free space' on each drive.

I realize that as I add more recordings the smaller drives will eventually be used but is there a way to spread the usage over all the drives ?

You could tinker with the free space rules for each drive to make it look balanced to Sage. So for instance you could tell Sage to use only 300 GB on your 750, putting it on par with the other 300s. Then when it starts to get "full", raise the limit a bit. Repeat until the whole drive is in use and free space is balanced across all drives.

Or if you don't have the patience for that, just move some recordings off the smaller, fuller drives and onto the bigger, emptier ones to balance the free space manually. (Be sure to read the FAQ on how to move recordings safely.)

also, with new drives - you know about 64KB cluster sizes for video file partitions?

No problem with the 64k cluster size.

I really don't want to manually mess with the drives. So, as this is really not a problem per se, I guess I'll just have to record more stuff !
