Placeshifter on Mac freezes my mouse
Ever since I upgraded to v6.4 my mouse freezes as soon as I connect to my SageTV box using Placeshifter on my Mac. I am running the latest 6.4.8.1 version of the Placeshifter on Mac OS X v10.5.5.
When I launch the Placeshifter, everything is fine until I connect, at which point my mouse does not respond on my Mac. When I try to move my mouse, the UI goes crazy as my mouse movements someone correspond to keyboard commands or something. Now what? |

I just installed it and I'm seeing the same behavior. Did you ever find a solution. I'm running 10.5.6 on my Mac Mini.
I installed placeshifter on my MacBook running 10.4.11 and it worked just fine. Did you ever get an answer or find a solution? Update: More info - I'm running 6.5.4 beta on my server (Vista OS). I first installed the latest released Placeshifter for the Mac (6.4.8). When that had the mouse problem, I decided to try 6.5.4, but the link to it was broken. So, I tried 6.5.3, which didn't work either. The keyboard works, but the mouse is useless. I was hoping to be able to use the placeshifter to watch some TV in a little window while doing other work on the Mac. Probably need to file a bug report. I did some troubleshooting with tech support but they were not able to resolve it since they couldnt replicate the problem. Until now, I thought it was an isolated issue. Now that you see it, I appears its not. I would send support an email and maybe reference this thread as a refresher for them since I don't have the original emails.

I have the same problem too - On the laptop the normal mouse (pad) works, but the USB mouse (external) does not.

I submitted a bug report. The first thing they asked what kind of mouse I was using. I told them I was using a Microsoft Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse 3000, but I didn't think it was the problem. I had another wireless mouse, a Gyration 2.4 GHz, which I decided to try. To my surprise, it worked! The support person said that they've had an ongoing problem with the Microsoft Wireless mice, "they register the receivers as an IR receiver instead of a mouse HID device". He had me gather some information and suggested that he may be able to get a fix in the final 6.5 release.

There's a fix in the 6.5.6 beta release of the Placeshifter for Mac that worked for me.

I'm using a WIRED Microsoft Comfort optical mouse 3000. When I switch to the Mac Mighty mouse, the problem goes away. Too bad I hate that mouse.

I'm experiencing this with the release 6.5.9 version of the Mac Placeshifter. Never had a problem under 6.4. As soon as I connect, the mouse freezes, and the UI goes crazy. Using direct IP connect, with a wired Mighty Mouse.
Looking back through my Software Update installed updates, I see that I installed "Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 3" version 1.0 back on 2/12. I probably hadn't used the placeshifter between 2/12 and when I upgraded to 6.5.9, so I can't tell you if it's the Placeshifter update, or the Java update. Unfortunately, I didn't save a copy of the Placeshifter 6.4 installer, so I can't go back to that version and check. |

I had this problem with Mac Placeshifter 6.5.9. The mouse would become unusable when connected to a SageTV server. The slightest movement of the mouse would cause Mac Placeshifter to react strangely.
I contacted support, did some troubleshooting, and submitted logs. Within a day, support had a new binary for me which corrected the problem. Apparently there is some conflict between Mac Placeshifter and the Apple Bluetooth Wireless receiver when using an Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse. So the good news is that a public fix may be available soon! |
