Remapping Channels

Hi all,
a simple question, when remapping a QAM channel, do I assign the QAm channel to the current channel or assign the QAM channel to the Channel number I want. I am very confused on the proper methodology here.
Also what is the difference between logical and physical?
Thanks for any help on this.

It depends on what exactly your situation is, and what your going for....but if you just want to group all the HD channels in one spot like I do:

Just remap the logical channel to put it where you want in the Guide.

The last channel in my Digital Cable lineup (for HDHR QAM) is 948...So I put all the HD at 950 + in the Guide.

From the additional research I have been doing I believe what I need is to re-map the currently selected channel to the channel which I want it to tune to.
What I have been trying to do is tune in all my QAM channels into Sage and then have the channels with just numbers assigned to their proper channel for recording shows through the guide e.g 105-1-10 assigned to where Fox would be (I know those are not correct but just an example) so that the guide information will show the correct shows for this channel.

I am just doing this as well and am completely confused.

On my system for example, NBCs HD channel is found correctly at 5-1 (SD channel is 5) but the call letters are not the standard local call letters. It is found as NBC5xx, but the guides all show it by the local call sign WMAQDT. So of course, the guide is empty.

I am obviously missing something

Are you using the HDHR? Have you tried changing the call letters to WMAQDT with the HDHR Channel Editor (most of the fields are editable)? If that doesn't work, you would want to click the Remap button for NBC5xx and select "Remap a different channel to this physical channel" and select the NBC HD channel from the lineup.

So from what I am seeing when I remap stations, something is not working correctly. How do I clear all the scanned channels, which file should be deleted?

The question of how remap channels is something that really should be in the FAQ. I'm probably not the best person to write the response, but I'll try to help people out here.

I don't think you have to delete anything to clear the mappings. Go into the "Setup Video Sources" and delete your two WinTV 418 TS tuners. Then add them again and rescan for QAM channels. Apparently you've gotten that working, so I won't go into any details about that.

After scanning, the channels you receive should be marked with a green dot. But, although Sage might assign stations to them, they probably won't be right. So you have to remap each channel to a station.

So, go to one of the channels you receive and watch it long enough to figure out what station it is by clicking "View". Next click on "Remap", and then "Map Different Station to this Physical Channel". A window should pop-up with all the different stations that are in your EPG lineup. You'll need to know the station's call letters. As an example, my NBC affiliate's call letters are WRC. The pop-up window had a listing for WRC, but that analog version, not the digital one. There should be one that appends DT to the call letters, so look for WRCDT.

That should be enough to get the EPG working. Next you'll probably want to change the logical channel number. This is where the channel will appear in your guide, and what number you'd have to enter to go to that channel in Sage. To change this mapping, click on Remap and "Map to Different Logical Channel Number". Then enter a number. For obvious reasons, pick a number that isn't already used in your other lineups.

I like to keep my HD channels together. So, if the analog version of WRC is 24, I map the digital channel to 924, since that's well outside the range of the other channels I receive.

This is a perfect explanation of what I was doing now

when I did a channel search I would get qam channels like 101-1 etc then I would remap it so i would get the correct channels in the guide this all worke until recently My cable provider changed some thing and now when I do a scan I get channels like 4-1 5-1 etc these seem to be remapped channels of the original numbers now when I do a pysical remap i no longer have both analog and digital channels 4 and 4-1 I just get the analog 4

What do I need to do

I am having a similar problem.

What I think is happening is Sage only allows one logical channel per physical channel. So.. if you say a channel is WHDH, and WHDH is channel 7 analog, it will assign the digital channel 7-1 to channel 7.

I mapped my HD channels to the corresponding 7xx logical channel in the digital cable lineup and that has worked well.. but I am having trouble mapping the SD channels.
