Favorites - HD only?

Is there any way to set up Sage to only record HD versions of a show? I want to start recording the Sopranos as a Favorite which is on A&E HD but Sage is recording all versions of this show. I can't find a way to only record the show when it is in HD - surely I am missing something?

Just restrict the Favorite to the HD channel.

Simply limit the channel to A&E HD instead of ANY channel.

But what if there are also HD showings on other channels?

Then select the other HD channels on the Favorite Details screen too.

Or, disable the SD versions of the channels so SageTV can only record from the HD versions.

How difficult would it be for sage to add HD/SD selection to the favorite settings? One of the benefits of sage is being able to let it pick when to record the shows, if you start limiting the channels, you start to handcuff the system.

One downside I do see to this is that the Guide data must be more accurate for the HD flag, but the guide data is a whole other issue.

That was exactly why I asked the question in the first place. You can filter recordings for HD so why not filter Favorites in the same way?

Sage can tell that a recording is HD by looking at the file frame size. For example if you copy a video to the media library that 1280x720, then Sage with stick the HD icon on the video. Not sure Sage knows what channels are HD in the guide. Is there a HD guide flag in the EPG? Otherwise, you'd need a configuration to tell Sage what channels are "HD" channels.

I am pretty sure that the source does have an HD flag, or at least "HD" text in the description. I am pretty sure that I have also seen this in MCE and even in data that I used to load into TiVo in the past. (In the good old days we had to "roll our own" guide data for TiVo in Canada from XMLTV as TiVo did not support Canadian channels.)

Sage has the smarts to automatically record HD versions of Favorites INSTEAD of SD versions, when the HD programs are flagged appropriately in the guide (unless you have restricted the Favorite in some way to prevent it). You shouldn't have to do antything special. Every once in a while, the program is not flagged correctly in the Guide - so it will grab the SD channel. You could tweak this with encoder merits, restricting the favorite to the "HD" channel only, or removing the duplicate SD channels of available HD channels altogether.

The Sopranos has got to suck on A&E. Too much to censor.

You're probably right. I would be better off recording it on OTA TV here in Canada where CTV aired the show without censoring it - we are a bit more liberal in our thinking up here and we don't believe that a few F bombs or T&A will totally corrupt our youth.
