Want to buy 2nd capture card .. recomendations ???

Just got started with SAGETV and this software is awesome ... i have a pvr150 and all is working ... but would now like to a 2nd capture card for my other reciever ...was thinking of just purchasing another pvr150 ... but maybe there is better out there ...

My pc is connected to my Plasma via VGA, so I dont think a pvr350 with a decoder would help since I assume it would need to be connected via the S-video ??? can someone clarify that ?

I would love to have hardware decoder this time if possible ...

Thanks.

First off, yes you are correct as you would have to hook the pvr350 to your television via the S-video. However, don't feel bad that you won't be using it as the PVR350 had many issues that were never fully able to be overcome.

Secondly, to your original quesiton. If you just want to continue to capture SD, then a PVR150 or some other SD MPEG2 encoder card is fine, but what about going with an HVR1600 or 1800? They are hybrid cards with an SD MPEG2 encoder for hooking up your other cable box and then you could also capture OTA HD with the digital tuner? Could start playing with HD a little.

FYI: I should mention that I believe Hauppauge stopped manufacturing all analog only cards due to the switch over to OTA Digital and I believe a mandate that all manufactured television tuners after x date also have a digital tuner (could be wrong about some of that). So your chances of getting a PVR150 is getting tougher and tougher.

i've had the pvr-150 for what must be several years now, and when i opted to buy Sage in the past month, i also added a PVR-1600 to the mix. So now i have 2 analog tuners... and 1 digital tuner to play in the HD realm (the 1600 is a "dual" tuner). Sage has been working just dandy recording both SD and HD material. My only concern is that my cable source may be ditching the analog channels at some point, and more and more content is going to be on digital and HD in the future. I'll cross that bridge then...

Edit: Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1600 NTSC/ATSC/QAM Combo

Thanks for the reply guys ....

So looks like I will stick with a 2nd PVR150 ... just pick up a HVR1600 ..

I live in Montreal, Canada and my Satellite provider is Expressvu ... they are already providing standard HD channels via SAT ... not really intrested in OTA yet ... but I guys with the HVR1600 i would be ready ...

Great ... thanks again ...
