Can I buy a used hd extender?

I may have located a used extender, but I am wondering if those licenses are transferable? I know yo can't sell the software licenses, but what about hardware?

I don't believe there is any 'hardware liscencing'. The externer liscense is stored on the SageTV Server, and is not associated with any particular extender. (you could, in theory, run 2 or more extenders with only one liscense... just only 1 at a time.)

Technically the licenses are non-transferable.

You could buy a placeshifter license though, as extenders and placeshifters share the same licenses.

Okay, so if I haven't had a problem yet with enough PS licenses, I guess I will be all right. I am replacing my existing mvps, so not really adding new extenders .

Same license all around for extenders. MVP = HD100 = Placeshifter. All interchangeable.

I sold one of my MVP's, purchased a used HD100 (for a very good price I might add ) and am now using the old MVP license on my HD100. Works just fine that way for me.

Now if I could find another soul who actually wants to get rid of their HD100.... Then I'd be really happy

It was a person who was new to SageTV entirely and was a little overwhelmed by the setup of SageTV. Had nothing to do with the extender itself. It was a good find and likely the last time I'll have that chance...

It does speak to the difficulty of setting up SageTV and/or HTPC's in general for many people. I hope SageTV focuses more on ease of setup & usablility in future versions. The current version of SageTV works great for me an many, many others; but it never hurts to widen the appeal.

I think there are plenty of us who would purchase a used HD100 if they were available to us. It's a brilliant technology...of course, need to take in consideration how much additional placeshifter license is.

Here's a reminder, since I've had to delete a few of these recently: the forum rules do not allow any type of buying, selling, or trading on this forum.

I suggest sellers check out ebay, which is intended as a place to sell things & where you will probably get more for anything you sell anyway. And, ebay has ways to deal with bad transactions. Here, any complaint about a bad transaction will simply get deleted with yet another reminder about the forum rules & a comment that the transaction shouldn't have been done here in the first place.

Missingremote.com also has a "For Sale/Trade" forum and that might be a better way to reach your target audience.

Ah darn. And I was going to offer to sell a couple of my extenders for $499 each. Heck, the kids can go without TV in the playroom until the extenders are back in stock.

Craigslist might be another place to check.
