WinXP, HD HomeRun and Sage 6.2 broken. Upgrade time

Background:
For the past several months, I have been successfully running this configuration and now I don't. I have XP SP2 with auto-updates mysteriously turned on. I also have the auto-update feature enabled (on purpose) for the HDHR software. No firewall is active on this box.

Near as I can figure, Patch Tuesday seems to have bitten me. Last Wednesday I noticed that I couldn't see live TV and went to the box to find it had rebooted itself and not logged itself in (auto-login is needed to load the HDHR drivers for Sage to see the tuners, right?). I logged in, the HDHR driver loaded but STV was unable to see the tuners. I noticed that the HDHR software had changed to the latest release (07/27) so I decided start looking here and at the Silicon Dust forum for a solution.

The problem:
Being an idiot, I decided to upgrade STV (It's broken anyway so I can't possibly do any further damage) to the latest and greatest following this thread.

While in upgrade mode (or is that idiot mode?), I figured I'd apply the SP3 update to WinXP. Now I can't get it to preview anything when I attempt to setup the tuners. The HDHR generates the appropriate files and VLC verifies that I can receive stations on both tuners.

I've spent the past two evenings reviewing the upgrade process and I must be missing something, but what? Any help you can pass along will be appreciated.

Sounds like a firewall problem. Assuming you're running a firewall, try turning it off and see if things work. If turning the firewall off works, you need to check your exceptions.

Check out the following post (I had a very similar problem, if not the exact same problem): http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32659

EDIT: I just re-read your post more carefully and saw that you aren't running a firewall. Are you sure? If you just installed SP3, it may have "helpfully" turned the firewall on for you. If you really aren't running a firewall, I would also try posting on the silicondust forums.

A further note:

You don't indicate whether you are viewing OTA or cable. I have OTA only. When I looked into my problem, I found a large number of posts on the silicondust forums that described the same symptoms (i.e. the HDHomerun viewer saw the channels but Sage did not). However, almost all of those posts dealt with cable. Apparently, there are some channel mapping problems and many users have had to go into the HDHomerun configuration software and remap cable channels.

Strangely enough, I couldn't not find any of these posts on the silicondust forums just now. Something weird appears to be going on with their forums. While there are posts back to 2007, the thread I started just a few months ago for my problem no longer exists. It seems that their forums do not retain all threads and posts for the period you specify (e.g. 1 day, 1 month, 1 year, all posts). This greatly reduces the functionality of the forum and be a further motivation for you to post your problem there.

Good luck.

Jay

I just checked and made sure that there is no firewall running. I am running this on cable (FIOS).

I haven't had a chance to post this over in the Silcondust forum but I will shortly.

Thanks for the feedback.
