Installing HD-PVR with other Hauppauge tuenrs present?

I am new to Sage - just configuring my system right now as I am converting from XP MCE although the box that I am setting Sage up on is running Vista. I have bought a HD-PVR but I haven't installed it or the drivers yet as I want to get a basic Sage install working first. My system is running Vista HP with a Hauppauge PVR-150 and a Kworld ATSC110 OTA tuner. My cable box is a SA3250HD from Rogers cable.

When I go to install the drivers for the HD-PVR will it nuke my exisiting drivers for the PVR-150? If so does that mean that I have to redo the setup for this tuner in Sage? Or just reinstall the drivers for the PVR-150 and all is well?

I have a few options for IR tuning - I have an MCE remote with IR receiver/blaster. I have a USB-UIRT. I have the remote/blaster that came with the HD-PVR. And my cable box is a SA3250HD and should work for Firewire channel change. What device should I use for changing channels - firewire (if I can get it set up properly)? Is Sage smart enough to send a power toggle IR command if the box is off?

Why would you think the HD-PVR would nuke the PVR-150? Well, it doesn't.

Firewire is the best way to go for channel changing. Opus4 has a write up of how to get it working. It works for me.

As for power toggle, I don't think it is possible via firewire, but I'm not 100% sure.

Good to hear - Bialio mentions in his post about nuking other drivers and when installing Hauppauge drivers in the past I seemed to remember running a program called hwclear that deleted all Hauppauge drivers from your system.

If you run Hwclear, then yes you will need to reinstall the PVR-150 drivers. Hwclear is intended for clearing all your old drivers, so the old drivers don't interfer with a later driver installation.

It depends on what you want to do. The thing that gets nuked is the IR blaster/receiver. When you install a new hauppauge device it usually wants to try and use the most recently added device for the IR sensors. When I installed my HD-PVR I ended up having to run HWClear and start over, because the IR blaster for my 1600 stopped working when I installed the HD-PVR. On my second try then I installed the HD-PVR first but did not install it's IR software. Installed the drivers for the 1600 second and then the IR software that came with the 1600 last. Then I did channel change for the HD-PVR with Firewire and channel change for the 1600 via its blaster.

That all worked for about a day, until sage stopped working with the 1600's IR blaster. I couldn't figure it out in the 10 minutes that I tried so I just switched to the usbuirt that I had sitting around. I still use the 1600's IR reciever for control via the Hauppauge remote and can change channels in the hauppauge IR software so its probably something minor that I did wrong.

Basically you have to play with the install order to get IR the device you want to work with the tuner you want it connected to.
