Noise at top of screen?
I've got "noise" at the top of the screen on some channels in both HD and SD. Is there an adjustment I can do to get this off the screen? These channels are over TWC analog and Clear QAM.
![]() ![]() I'm running SageTV 6.3 on a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1600, Core2Duo 6300, 2 GB DDR2, Nvidia 7950GT 256MB. |

I don't notice them on my tv, but I have notice on my server (not connected to a tv). What happens when you go full screen? (cuz I never go full screen on my server?
I also believe there is a way to set the overscan during sagetv setup. I don't know if that would fix the problem or not. edit: You can see the top of the video where the noise is above that. So this is a underscan issue, so if you were to use the adjustment it MIGHT work. |

That is closed caption data embedded in the broadcast. You can adjust your Aspect Ratio settings to slightly enlarge the video and push that data off the screen.

Yep, its always there, you just don't see it on a regular TVs since they automatically crop out ~10-20 pixels on every side of the picture.

Sometimes the 'invisable' CC Data gets annoying. Since I run SageTV Client and view on a PC I had to do two things. 1. Set Multimedia > Aspect Ratio Settings > Modify: Vertical Stretch to 101% 2. Add window size definitions to sage.properites (sageClient.properties) so that when I right-click the title bar I can set a res/aspect and the stretch will work properly. Code:
quick_menu_sizes=240x180,320x240,480x360,640x480,800x600,960x720,1120x840,1280x960,638x360,851x480,1064x600,1277x720 //When are they going to make computer displays with fold-out wings for 16:9? When? |

I see this but only when using HDHomeRun. Not when using my HDPVR.
The problem is when I push the overscan up the HDPVR feed looks like I pushed it up and some of the sage icons like the conflict and record start to get cut off. any way to move just the one source? |

Change one of the Aspect Ratio (AR) settings, not the overscan setting. The overscan setting is for the menus and UI. The AR settings only affect video playback.

Increase the vertical stretch to 103% or so. You can do the same to horizontal if you are sensitive to the slight distortion. The settings are specific to the currently selected Aspect Ratio Mode. Also, when using an HD100, you can also get to the settings from the options menu while playing a video. Aloha, Mike

I attached is an image of what I see when I go to the aspect ratio screen. I did use the left right buttons to adjust that number from 1.783 but it had no effect on the picture. I went 10 clicks in each direction.
This is crazy as I was able to do all this cool stuff today but the simplest one is getting me stuck. 1. reboot script for my hd extender so it reboots when pc reboots 2. worked on comskip for a while with no issues 3. modified some scripts to rip dvds and do imdb lookups with cover art. 4. explained to my father how to install a NAS I sent to his house so I can have offsite backups. But ask me to resize the screen 1/8 of an inch to get rid of a closed caption line and I am stuck. Is the resize to 103% on this screen? really guys.. thanks so much for the handholding on this... the cc that the hdhomerun passes on is driving me crazy.. Quote:

That's the Display Aspect Ratio Settings option in Detailed Setup -> Multimedia; you want the Aspect Ratio Settings, which affect the current setting for the Aspect Ratio Mode.
But unless I missed it: when trying to get help, would you please tell us what type of client you are using right at the start when posting about the issue? There are a few settings options that are not available on certain clients. On an HD100, the Aspect Ratio Settings option is not there. Instead, you would have to edit a custom aspect ratio mode while on the playback screen. And, if you are using an HD100, which the lack of icons at the top of the menu header indicates, please note that this isn't the extender forum, so people won't be thinking 'extender', unless told about it. Edit: Yup, I missed the subtle hint of "reboot script for my hd extender so it reboots when pc reboots". - Andy
