One less click...

I can't seem to find an answer to my question in these forums. So I will ask here.

As you all know, when we click on a channel, we are presented with a box with several options (either basic or advanced). From this box, we can select: Watch Now and then we can watch the channel we selected.

Is there a way to bypass this options box and go directly to the channel, similar to a satellite receiver. I don't need these options all the time and anyways, I can get them with the options button when I am watching tv. I would rather have one less click.

Is this possible?

Yes, press the "play" button instead of "click"ing on the channel.

Nope, that didnt work!

I havent tried with my remote yet as I am using Placeshifter at the moment. So, I use the keyboard command: CTRL + D, and well that doesn't work, that doesn't work at all. The first time I do it, the channel shows up in the preview window, while the guide is still there. When I do it on another channel, nothing happens. I suspect because something is playing already.

Any ideas?

When the preview window is on, use Play on the same item again to view that one.

Or, better yet, use the Options command and turn off the video playback on the menus. Then Play will jump to the playback screen.

Works!

Ya, that did the trick. I was wondering if there was a way to have the select button do it instead of play. Select is just so much more natural to click on...

Thanks for your help

Did you push the play button instead of Select?

Yes that worked but it seems like there is a way to have the select button work. Is that not correct ?

No, currently, the behavior in the Guide is that SELECT will bring up the options for the selected show. Play will do one of two things:

If Video is playing, PLAY gets sent to the media playback, therefore, it would resume playback if it was paused.
If no Video is playing, PLAY will be sent to the guide, and start playback of the selected show.

I'm not sure I'd want the SELECT to start the selected show. What then would be used to bring up the options menu? (the actual OPTIONS button wouldn't work well, as it brings up the overall Guide options).
