Cpu usuage when recording with HD PVR

I have read that using the arcsoft for recording that comes wtih the hauppauge hd pvr brings up a recording preview that can bring the cpu utilization up a lot. I was wondering if the same happens in sagetv when recording, or does the cpu stay pretty much the same as when just watching tv. I was under the impression that since it used hardware encoding the cpu utilization would not go up a lot during recordings. Thanks

CPU runs low. It's the playback which will get you.

CPU usage for me during playback using either Total Media Theater or Sage is roughly equivalent. Both utilize hardware if you've got the right setup.

And the "right" setup is windows XP. In Vista under Sage, you won't get hardware acceleration with the Arcsoft Decoder. Their Vista decoder only accelerates with EVR, and Sage doesn't do EVR.

Best bet for playback is a $200 dollar video card called the HD Extender
