Transcoded DVD's Freeze

I'm running into a problem where ripped and transcoded DVD's are freezing periodically. The video freezes while the audio continues to play.

I'm using 6.4.4.172 and transcoding to either MPEG4 or H.264 using Handbrake. The transcoded videos work fine in other players.

Anyone else seeing this?

TIA

- Jeff

Ouch, nothing?

I didn't mean to post this in the beta forum, but I didn't want to cross post once I realized my mistake. Should I post this question the general forum?

No - you are using the beta version of SageTV. (Unless you mean you have no issue in SageTV and your problem is using the video tools you mentioned?)

No, no problems with the tools, the videos play fine on VLC, etc.

This issue is killing my use of SageTV, though. I'm flabergasted that no one else has seen this.

There were a few reports earlier in the beta process, recent versions have fixed it for me. Try the RC...

Don't thank me, I didn't even read your question properly...

The issue that's fixed for me is with ripped DVDs, not transcoded.

Well, at least the ripped DVD's work, which gets the job done.

What I had been doing (or would like to do), is rip DVD's, transcode them, and then import them using Nielm's web UI. That way, ripped DVD's show up in the recorded TV interface (and all my movies are together).

Can you go into detail about the Handbrake settings you're using?

I've used two. Let me know if this information is sufficient:

Video:
Encoder: H.264 or Mpeg 4
2 pass encoding
Quality: avg. bitrate 2000
Framerate: auto
Audio:
Encoder: AAC
Track 1 misc stereo
Bitrate: 160
Sample rate: 48

Ok, well first off I know that there were some mpeg4 problems in Handbrake 9.2 so lets ignore that one, but I think h.264 was pretty solid. I'm guessing you're using an avi container, could you try h.264 with an mkv container?

Containers?! Containers?! Oh, yeah, containers.

Where do I set the container in Handbrake? Is it by output extension? If so, I used whatever it defaulted to, which I think was "m4v". If there's some other place to set it, I haven't seen it.

Thanks so much for helping me out on this. If I can muddle through to the end with your help, I'll sing (softly, so no one is bothered by it).

No joy again. The resulting video couldn't fast forward or rewind. I've also tried AVI now, and that gave garbles and chirps for audio.
