Playback stutters while recording
This is a recent problem that started in the past few months. If Sage is recording anything in the background, shows will play with constant stuttering. SageTVService itself is only using 40-50% CPU, though this has jumped to 90% during recording.
I immediately added more RAM, going from 512 to 1.3GB, updated Java to the latest version, and changed the Java heap size to 512MB. None of this had any effect on the stuttering ![]() This used to be just fine; I think one of my normal updates in the 3.x family started all of this.

Since this wasn't already answered, the standard first question for stuttering is: what is the cluster size of the drive(s) where the recordings are stored?

Are your drives operating in PIO mode? Check your BIOS and Device Manager. This helps with the latter:

I have three drives to which videos are stored. I keep adding new drives instead of replacing old ones after Sage started deleting videos the first time I swapped
![]() D: - PATA - 4KB cluster F: - PATA - 64K cluster G: - USB - default - 4KB cluster I assume then that I should backup and reformat these 4's to 64KB? All the drives are in DMA mode, too.

LOL, well, part of the problem is that I'm an idiot. I started moving 200GB of videos off last night. When I woke up 10 hours later, only 20 GB had been moved. I then realized that the external drive has been using the USB 1 slots all this time.
![]() Moved it to a USB 2 slot and moving things off. Will still format, but that should resolve many issues ![]()
