Mpeg2 decoder needed w/Radeon?
Newbee question,
If a video card provides hardware DVD/mpeg decoding, like my Radeon 9600XT, do I still need decoding 'software' to take advantage of the video card's acceleration? Also, how would one configure SageTV to use the hardware decoder of the video card? I am considering the WinTV-250 or 350 but assume that the 250 would work just as well as the 350 if the video card offers hardware decoding. Thanks, Bill |

The Radeon cards don't have true full decoding. However, when using a software decoder you can enable hardware decode assist (DXVA) to offload some of the process from your CPU.
Short answer, yes you must still use a software decoder. |
