Exclamation "SageTv has stopped working"

Hi,

All of a sudden I am having an error message pop up in vista business that says "SageTv has stopped working." It gives you the option of checking for a solution online and closing the program or just closing the program.

I was using the ArcSoft decoder for everything until I started getting this message when playing back DVD's. As a shot in the dark I re-installed the nvidia decoder and playback of DVD's and standard (i.e. not hdpvr recordings) has been fine. Unfortunately I am still getting the error whenever I try to play back an HDPVR recording.

I have tried changing back to the ArcSoft decoder, switching to overlay and disabling DXVA. Nothing seems to help.

I did a little research on google and found that some folks have this problem (with a variety of different programs) because of DEP. I disabled DEP from a command line but it did not help.

On my XP based client I am having no problems. The HDPVR recordings play back just fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Jesse

A Sage crash is usually caused by an error of a dependency, usually the interplay of a decoder and the display device driver. Since you've discovered it's associated with Arcsoft I think my first response would be to uninstall the Arcsoft Decoder, reboot and reinstall it.

If it continues they you'll want to find what these users share in common (ie: graphics manufacturer/model/driver, motherboard, OS, etc.) then contact Sage and Arcsoft. MP4/h.264 is really new and Arsoft seems to be doing a lot of bug fixes.

You might want to think about using another h.264 decoder.

Hi Conejo,

Thanks for the reply. When time permits I had planned on trying a reinstall of the decoder as a first step. I figured I would post here on the off chance someone had seen this before.

I will post back with my results.

Thanks again.

Update.

Removing and reinstalling the ArcSoft decoder worked for a while. Within a day or so the problem returned.

Some more poking around on AVS and the ArcSoft forums turned up some info about ArcSoft conflicting with a few different AV programs, one of which I happen to use (Avast). I have uninstalled Avast and so far so good. I will post back after testing for a few more days.
