Turning on cable box with USBIRT IR blaster?

I managed to setup the USBIRT IR blaster to watch Comcast digital channels via s-video input. However I often turn off my cable box when I am not watching TV. I was wondering if there is a way for Sage to actually turn on the cable box before shooting off channel numbers ? It is a Moto DCT5100/1005 box.

My solution is to alway leave the set top box on. I suspect that is the same solution for most people who use SageTV. The computer is on 7 X 24, and the set top box draws very little power compared to the computer. I physically block the set top box that is controlled by a USB-UIRT, so it isn't accidentally shut off by a remote control. The set top box is also plugged into the UPS unit that backs up my computer power to make sure it stays on all the time.

I think if you actually measured the power draw from the set top box, I would guess when you turn it off, it actually isn't fully off, and it is drawing close to the same power as if the set top box was on. If you calculated the monthly set top box power cost, it wouldn't be much.

I agree and of course that is the obvious solution. I leave 4 PCs running in the house. So power was not concernt. Just that I need to reprogram my Logitech remote to leave the cable box on when I press off.

thanks.

I think that is the easiest solution.
