HD-100 jaggies with SD

Works great with HD material. However, a good bit of what I watch is still SD. Doesn't matter if it's my QAM cable or DISH satelite, all the SD stuff looks really bad.
When I check the recording properties, the file is always 480i.
If I let the HD-100 auto config my HDMI settings for the TV, it never turns on the 480i setting. If I force it on, then the file won't play at all; black screen.
It appears to me the problem is my Samsung TV doesn't support 480i?
Is that the reason for the jaggies?
Is there anything to do about it?
The TV is brand new, so I hope the solution isn't "buy a different TV"!
Thanx.

If 480i is not auto-detected over hdmi most likely your TV can't receive it. You could try a component connection to see if that works better. What is the source of your video? It is possible it isn't flagged properly. (interlaced data encoded inside progressive frames)

Component

I discovered my TV handles 480i if I use component cables. I don't know if it's just my imagination, but I think HDMI looks better?
In any event, it does solve the jaggies problem.
