XP home or Pro for server
Starting to put the server parts together and wondering witch on is better for a sagetv server. I will use vnc for remote use and will only be sharing the tv directory with one other computer and streaming to the rest.

I'm running XP Pro for my SageTV server, and for my SageTV Client. I use Windows XP Pro's Remote desktop connection to do remote administration when I need to.

Just as an aside, I was able to run Sage v2 beta as a server with 2 tuners and 2 clients on a P3 600MHz with 128MB RAM.
*In fact, it was upgrading the RAM to 640MB that totally killed my server, but that wasn't SageTV's fault. I would have left well enough alone but this machine was also supposed to be an IIS server and Windows was rather sluggish. Last edited by salsbst; 02-05-2004 at 05:26 PM. |

Go with Pro, Home has File and Printer Sharing crippled, it is not possible (AFAIK) to set share permissions on a per-user basis with Home, it's everybody or nobody.

But for home use, why would that matter? Is there a need to not allow a particular family member to print or view a file?
