Recording SD vs HD using an analog tuner card and HD-PVR (single cable box)

So, tell me something...is it possible to have my Hauppauge PVR-350 record SD channels while my HD-PVR records HD channels coming out of a single Scientific Atlanta Explorer 4250HDC?

Only reason I ask is because I assume an SD channel would be recorded with HD file sizes. Not a huge issue, but, it is a hit to the system.

Is this even possible? Would I need to use two separate IR blasters pointing at the same device? My guess is that Sage wouldn't handle this well...as it would probably think there were two cable boxes and there'd be constant conflicts during channel changing.

Thoughts?

yeah, i'm pretty sure that you can't have both capture devices recording from the same cable box.

I'm guessing you get SD channels that only the box can decode and don't want to get another box. However, if you still get some SD over analog coax you can split the cable to the 350 too. But you probably already knew that.

Did look into having my 3450 (i think) drive out a show at native resolution, but it cannot do that (at least over DVI). Have you look at getting into the service menu to see if that is an option for component?
