HD-PVR: Preview window sort of messed up.
Hi,
Is the preview window supposed to be smooth in SageTV when adding a tuner? SageTV found my HD-PVR and even displayed a recognizable picture, but it seemed jerky and paused/stopped a few times. I haven't had a chance to actually do anything more with it, but I'm just wondering if I should continue trying to make the preview window work or just skip ahead to doing actual recordings and trying those. The problem could be my notoriously weak cable signal, but if that were the case I would expect the playback to be smooth (but have whatever visual artificats were there in the outputed signal). Any thoughts? |

I *think* my preview window was jerky too... but regular playback was fine. You might want to finish adding it and view full-screen to see how it plays for you.

I've heard you shouldn't worry about the preview window, seems like it's there just to assure you're getting signal...not much more. If it's not playing smooth, it's because it's focusing on recording (more important than playback for that window).

Actually I think I might be having a problem with my cable signal or a problem with USB bandwidth. I'll have to check tomorrow. SD channels work ok, but HD channels aren't working well at all (they play, but they pause every second or so).
Tomorrow I'm going to check to run my cable directly to the cable box (no splitters) and see if that improves things. I'll also make sure in my bios that I've plugged the USB cable into a 2.0 port instead of a 1.1 port (not sure what that box has -- it might be a mix of 1.1 and 2.0). In any case, the preview window itself seems ok as long as its an SD channel. |
