A week ago I called Hauppage about my newly arrived HD-PVR that was not working. This was before it was known that the problem was widespread and the tech hadn't heard of it yet. He escalated the call to an engineer and said they would call or email me the next day. A week went by and I still hadn't heard back even though a lot of others were experiencing the same issue so, yesterday, I sent them an email to follow up.
The reply came this morning and said: 1. They still don't know if it is the driver or hardware. 2. They are unable to reproduce the issue on units that have been returned. 3. They would issue an RMA if I wanted. Obviously, #2 is the most interesting. S |

Mine is 2008 (need to get the rest of the # still) but I have it sitting in a very hot cabinet, so its had a fan blowing on it. With that setup, its cool, and works perfectly. Plan on moving it to outside of the cabinet and no fan and see the results.

This concerns me. No fewer than a dozen people on this board alone are having the exact same problem. How can they not reproduce the problem? Are they doing the testing inside a walk in freezer? I'm also wondering whether the "tested" replacement unit I get will work.

Question - can people please report back if they are using the stock drivers (on the CD) or the beta drivers that are floating around, and if their unit is working or not working?
I am using the beta drivers.. one unit is definitely NOT working and the other unit which I *thought* was working fine spontaneously locked up last night and required a soft power cycle (front button off/on) in order to get it to respond to SageTV again. =( For those of you with "perfect" setups right now, are you using beta drivers or the stock drivers on the CD that came with the unit? -Dan |

Mine is working with ArcSoft and SageTV
2108 10607659
I've recorded six 1.5 - 2.25 hour long movies successfully, two using the (incredibly clunky) ArcSoft bundled software and four using SageTV. I'm new to SageTV and incredibly impressed, but unfortunately, with this hardware, SageTV simply can't produce the same quality recording as can the ArcSoft "Capture Module" because you simply can't set the bitrate high enough -- the "best" setting in SageTV is only 5.9mb whereas in the "Capture Module" it can be set to constant 13.5mb. Side-by-side comparisons of the same content from my DirecTV H20 show a much higher quality capture from the ArcSoft stuff. A shame, because SageTV is brilliant! I'm going to buy it regardless, under the assumption that support for this hardware will mature (along with the firmware and drivers from Hauppauge ). Regards, TL |
