Loss of keyboard/remote control

I'm using a wireless Airboard and an MX-500 to control SageTV. I never had any control problems in v1.4. In v2 I loose all control of Sage about 4-5 times/day. Sometimes I can do a C-A-D and select switch-to and regain control (probably loss of focus), but most of the time nothing I do responds. I can switch to MyHTPC and it works fine... switch back to Sage and nothing. The only way out is to close Sage from the task manager. Has anyone else had this happen? Aside from this, v2 is working great for me.

I have had loss of control (both local keyboard, remote control (via Girder) and TightVNC remote acess) with Beta 10 and Beta 11...

I had tried clicking to regain focus and sleep/awake but neither helped

It seems that the only thing that works is Alt-F4, (which puts it to sleep), then exit/restart...

I've had the same thing happen with .11 and I don't remember it happening at all with .0. Mouse control usually works even after keyboard and remote stop.

When it gets into this state, I have to kill Sage using the task manager -- a simple right-click->Close from the task bar doesn't do it.

I'm running dual PVR-250's and have Sage configured for Hauppauge remote and keyboard.

I had this problem when I first installed V2.0.10. The strange thing was that if I let SageTV sit for a while (1-5 min) most of the time I would regain keyboard control. I submitted the problem to Sage and went back to v1.4. A couple of days later I reinstalled V2.0.10 and the problem disappeared and have not had the problem since (currently at v2.0.11).

About a week later Frey responded to my bug submission and said

"Try changing the "event_delay_to_discard" property in the Sage.properties file to 10000. Do this while Sage is not running."

I made the change even thought the problem had stopped. So maybe try doing a uninstall/reinstall and/or changing the above property.

Hope this helps.

I discussed something similar or perhaps the exact same thing here, but this thread title seems more appropriate.

I haven't tried uninstalling/reinstalling (I suppose I ought to try that), but I can say that the property change didn't fix it for me.

I did the unistall reinstall. I dont have the lost focus issue that maybe similar to what some of you have after doing so. I had to use the sage.properties and wiz.bin from the first beta, not the upgradeed second. A lot of the new betas functionality was not working with upgradeing the first beta. I did a fresh install of .11 (deleting the whole frey dir). The only issue I have now is that enter on the keyboard and OK on the pvr remote stop working on the search screens. Every other key works but enter! Enter itself works on every other screen but the search when selecting letters. Closing sage and reopening fixes the problem. This seems to happen if sage is running longer the 5 or 10 minutes.

White94Cobra: I also get that problem... Then after a while the left arrow stops returning me to the previous screen (I can work around this with the 'Back' command... Then all keyboard controls are lost!

Yes, exactly... the left arrow does seem to stop working first. I also had a persistant issue in the search screen. The Enter key didn't work at all (keyboard or remote). That appears to have been fixed in the latest beta.

It does seem that if I loose keyboard control while in the menus, the mouse does work and as soon as I go into a menu with the mouse, keyboard control is back. However, if I loose control while in full screen video, there's nothing I can do. Maybe I'll try to be patient next time it happens and see if I regain control after a few minutes.

Just did it to me too. The left seemed to be the first. Within a couple of minutes of increasing frantic button pushing, the entire remote fails a button at a time. Shutdown/restart fixes? it.

I've sporadically seen this issue too. It's almost like Sage stops receiving the sendmessage from Girder. This would be in my particular case. I've seen it more on my client than on the server. And there's no consistency when it will stirke. I've seen it more in the Scheduled Recording are than anywhere else though.

It's been running for a couple of hours after the last lockup, running dvds and heavy navigation and everything still works great. I have no girder involved so I don't think girder is responsible. I'm going to keep beating on it.

Well I solved the problem by uninstalling .11, deleting the SageTV folder, then reinstalling. The only thing I kept from the previous install was wiz.bin. It definitely appears to be related to some settings left over in Sage.properties. One setting that was mentioned in an earlier reply was different between my two installs:

Before reinstall:

event_delay_to_discard=200

After reinstall:

event_delay_to_discard=300

I'll try setting this back to 200 to see if the problem repros.

I thought i had this fixed with a reinstall as well......I was wrong! During the superbowl it came back with a vengence. It actually happened during live full screen tv! I could use the mouse but the keyboard/remote would not function until I restarted sage. The event_delay_to_discard=300 does not seem to make a diffrence from 200 to 10000. I could live temporarily with the enter key not working during searches but the complete loss of control has we wishing for an updated beta this week.

Every time I think I have something figured out about this problem, it changes. I _thought_ it only happened when I started a preview, but not if I only used "Watch Now". Then, I could suddenly start all the previews I wanted (discoverd by accident that a preview worked & kept trying it), but when I started full screen playback, the lock-out occurred.

Then, I decided to just let the show play, since I didn't want to restart SageTV due to a recording in progress. 20 minutes later, I regained control. That let to some more testing: sometimes I would get control back again if I let it be for a long time, other times I could watch a show all the way through & never regain control.

Here's hoping this is the first bug fixed in the next version...

Allow me to throw my name in here too. I've experienced loss of remote control (not using Girder, using IRMan on COM1). Keyboard is still functional - I've never lost keyboard control. This is on 2.0.11 SageTVClient. I haven't noticed the remote issue on SageTV, but I'm using the hauppauge remote which just sends keyboard messages to Sage so I wouldn't expect to see it on the server.
