Setting Manual Recording Status Deletes Recording!?!

Using v6.3.10.166, default STV

Today I noticed I had a repeat recording and when I went to adjust my favorite options to only include first runs, I accidentally changed its recording status to "manual" - then the recording disappeared!

I made sure that my filter options included manual recordings, but it just wasn't showing within SageTV. I examined the recording directory and the file was physically removed from the disk!

So, I tried apply the manual recording status it a few more times on some shows that I've viewed before and they all were removed as soon as their status changed.

Is this a bug or is something occurring that I don't quite understand?

Changing an existing recording to Manual Recording status should not cuase it to be deleted from the hard drive. If that is what is happening, then you should contact SageTV.

Did you have debug logging enabled while this was happening? Try confirming that a recording's file in on the drive, then change it to MR status while debug logging is on, and see what the results are.

Then lower in the file I see

You could try the v6.4 beta to see if that still happens. If it does, you should file a bug report.

Thanks for the info - unfortunately since my wife uses the PVR while she's on parental leave, I don't like to fiddle with it too often.

I've filed a support request and I'll upload the logs if it can't be reproduced.

I had this exact same problem. I submitted a support request, and they determined that the cause was one of the STVi's that I had loaded onto the stock STV. They advised that I revert back to stock, and that did clear the problem.

The two STVi's that I had loaded were Comskip support and the Read/Write Metadata one. So far I loaded the latest Comskip plugin, and I haven't seen the problem re-occur yet.

Comskip, eh?

I'll have to give that a shot - strange that commercial skipping would cause a file to be deleted, who knows!

Thanks for the advice!

Well, I don't know if it was comskip, or the other plugin (JREkiwi's Read/Write My files), but I do know that reverting to the stock STV stopped the problem.

I too am puzzled about what either of those STVi's could be doing to cause Sage to delete the recordings.

Oh, and my wife did discover that if she marked a recording as manual while she was watching it, it wouldn't delete the file.

So I updated the Comskip playback plug-in to the latest version and it appears to have resolved my problem of having the recording deleted when the manual status is applied to it.

Now a really weird issue turned up - when the manual status is set, SageTV detects a conflict in the past and asks me to resolve it! Anyway, I can live with that one!

Thanks for everyone who chipped in to help me resolve this issue!

Gus

BTW: The first post only mentioned using the "default STV"... please remember that any time you run into problems, you should revert to a completely default setup w/o any customizations enabled to see if it still occurs. If it does, then SageTV can look into it. If it doesn't, then you can try the customizations to see if one of them is causing the issue. That helps narrow things down so you don't get pointed in the wrong direction. Thanks.

You can configure comskip monitor to wreck your shop on cleanup. For instance if you didn't add .avi to one of the last options in your setup it will delete them if the mpg is no longer there. This happens when you do an inplace compression and delete source after compression.

Might check your settings.

Dang... after 2 months of no deletions, this problem reared its ugly head this weekend. As soon as manual recording status is set on a recording, Sage deletes it. And I haven't changed ANYthing on the server - no new STVi's, no new installations. And when I reverted back to the default STV, which then excludes the Comskip plugin, the problem goes away.
