How to change from local to internet network connection?

The SageTV Server and Placeshifter are in different houses and both use ADSL to connect to the internet. The different houses through the same ISP, so I got the similar ip address:
The IP of SageTV Server is 219.84.176.112.
The IP of Placeshifter is 219.84.30.195.

The Placeshifter thinks the SageTV Server is in local network and didn't require any username and password to login to Server, but it's wrong.

After I search the forums and found to change the value:
miniclient/authenticate_local_connections=true
It's for local network force to login to server. Is anything else need to change to enable the Video/Audio Compression through internet connections?

I tried to restrict the Placeshifter streaming Video Bitrate= 300 kbps, but it seem not work if Placeshifter thinks the SageTV Server is in local network.
Is it right?

Thanks for your help.

Both computers are connected directly to the Internet, without any sort of router? Did you configure those IP addresses manually, or do you use DHCP?

If manual, then set the subnet mask on both to 255.255.255.255, so each one thinks it's on its own subnet. Then Placeshifter should work as expected.

If your ISP assigns IPs using DHCP, then something is fishy with their DHCP server if it's assigning different users to the same subnet. Not just Placeshifter, but Windows Firewall, File & Printer Sharing, etc. will be wide open to anybody else on that same subnet. This seems like a pretty serious security hole that you should talk to your ISP about correcting.

If they can't or won't correct it, then you should get yourself a couple of hardware firewall routers and install one at each location. Use DHCP on the router's LAN interface to assign local IP addresses to the connected computers. Then your machines won't be open to the Net at large, and Placeshifter will do what it's supposed to do with remote connections. Note that you'll also have to configure port forwarding on the server's router to direct incoming Placeshifter traffic to your Sage server.

Yes, both computers are connected directly to the Internet without any router.

The computer running SageTV Server uses PPPOE to connect to the internet. ISP assigns IPs using DHCP.
The result of "ipconfig"

PPP adapter So-net:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 219.84.125.141
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 219.84.125.141

The computer runnin Placeshifter uses fixed ip address.
The result of "ipconfig"

Ethernet adapter 區域連線 3:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 219.84.30.195
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 219.84.30.254

I tried to set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.255, but it can't. So I set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.254.
The result of "ipconfig"

Ethernet adapter 區域連線 3:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 219.84.30.195
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.254
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 219.84.30.254

It still not work. What is the rule for the Placeshifter to determine the SageTV Server is in local network? Based on the ip address and Subnet Mask, the two computer should not be.

Thanks for your help.

If it's not using the subnet mask to decide, I don't know what the rule is.

Did you configure Placeshifter to connect by IP or by Locator ID? Whichever it was, try it the other way to see if that makes a difference.

No matter connected by IP or by Locator ID, I got the same result.
