OSD Issues

Well -
I was out of town for a few days - good to see that it's been quiet around here.

So - I've trolled, and haven't seen anything obvious .. so..
is ANYONE besides me having problems with the OSD? Anyone?

Right now - the OSD is completely worthless... it's otherwise working sort of OK (other than the remote wonder issues, which should get fixed soon enough)..

Um... I think you'll have to be more specific about what makes it worthless before anyone can offer comments.

Does it not show up? What output card are you using?

Do you simply not like the info it displays? What do you want changed?

Does it simply look incomplete, as if all those old commands are missing? I think it is simply incomplete & all those old commands are missing, at least if I am reading the release notes correctly. (See the attachment to the beta announcement email.)

Is it showing up on your neighbor's TV instead? Now _that_ would be worthless & I would agree that it needs to be changed. I mean, I certainly don't want them to know what I'm watching. Besides, I can barely make out what is on their TV even when I use my binoculars.

See my earlier thread on this ('first bug post').. and screenshots.

The OSD is only partially displaying - completely unreadable... and what DOES show up - refreshes over itself... (ie, if I type in a channel number, it types in over the LAST channel number... and so on..)

You might want to repost information or at least a link to it... it takes a while to go searching for someone else's other threads. That might help others make suggestions for you. I really don't know what to say except for a couple things:

1) My cure-all lately has been to suggest that everyone check the version of java they are running and update it if it isn't the latest one. See the link for Sun's java software at the bottom of this page. I only know one note & I'm going to play it all I can.

2) Have you tried other settings for both your video renderer and filter?

Beyond that, I'm lost & was just encouraging you to provide more info for those who know the video problems better than I do.

To speedup/simplify things, I did a quick search of the forum and found the link to his previous thread/post. It's here. I have a supsicion that Opus4 is right and that a java update may fix it. Or at least part of the problem.

PS:Here's his screenshot as well.

I'll check the version of Java that I'm running and update first thing today.

PROGRESS!

Well,
I've got the OSD now - seems that Java didn't fix it, but VMR did (took a few tries, but VMR seems to be working now)..

So - we're making progress....

How did vmr fix it? I'm having trouble with osd too. How do I enable vmr if that's what I'm supposed to do. Thanks!

I'm assuming that VMR was what fixed it - since that was the last change I made before it started working...

Under Setup->Detailed Setup-> Video

it's in there - VMR/OVERLAY settings

If VMR fixed it you might want to try updating your Video card's drivers.

I believe I'm up to date... I only got the card in November (and installed the latest drivers at the time)... and I think I've updated once since then.. but it's certainly worth a double-check.

Just thought I'd post a wierd follow-up..

when I installed .11 - I got the same OSD issues as before... even with VMR set.

A little switching on/off of VMR and 3D acceleration got it back to working... but it took a few tries. A bit wierd, but now it's all good.
