My first one is working great, and my boss just handed me his unit to take home tonight and try to see if both will work. Hopefully it will just plug in and go, I'm thinking it will show up as an HD PVR #2 and then I'll just configure it. I'll report back what I find as soon as I can.

I'm VERY interested in how it works with 2 HD-PVRs as well.

I was told by Dorothy that the driver itself will not accept 2 devices. I hope that she is wrong or that it is fixed soon.

Same here. I'm having DTV installed next week to replace my degrading cable service. One HD source could be tough with all of the HD channels I will have to choose from...

Hmm. I've seen mixed viewpoints even from within Hauppauge on this. The last thing I was told was this: The Arcsoft program wont' handle multiple devices, but it is up to the software to handle multiple HD-PVR's. I've also been told by others the same thing Dorthy told you so who knows.

That's why I'm so interested in what happens when you try two.

More delays...

I just received an email from Vincent at Hauppauge saying that my order (#352xx) would not go out by Monday as Dorothy had stated.

This is not good. I was supposed to get it by Fathers day!

i have been working with mine since yesterday and my views so far is passthru works great,no problems but the software and drivers i think need alot of work.i have used sagetv and the full version of arcsoft total media extreme. arcsoft has captured great video so has sagetv both preview windows are unwatchable.sage takes almost 100% cpu, arcsoft about 70%.the only player that will play the captures is total media theater but no sound, mpc will play unwatchable with sound.the heat issue i am still not sure.
i filled a ziploc bag with ice put it under the box and could not tell much difference.
i am using the full arcsoft software because my install cd was blank ,when i get a new cd maybe the arcsoft made for this device will work better.i have dual core cpu,2gb memory.we need a simple capture utility that just works.years ago when i got my ati hdtv wonder, the ati software was crap but watchhdtv app worked perfect.i still think the flaw is mostly in the hd-pvr driver.

Me too. I'm close to hitting the "order" button on Hauppauge for my 2nd unit but will wait a few days to hear about this one.

Well, I only have 1 HD Comcast box, so I will have to go to Comcast tomorrow and swap my SD box for an HD box to really test this thing over the weekend, but...

TWO HD-PVRs work perfectly fine with my system!!!

I added the second unit, installed the Beta drivers, and then in Device Manager it looked like the boxes were named exactly the same, so I restarted SageTV server, went to add another Tuner, and Voila!!!

Check the image below! I tried to capture a shot of the preview window showing the ESPNHD clip (sportscenter is on now), but it was just a black screen, because of video overlay.

I want to record two channels at once, so I will go get a new box tomorrow, not really in a position to tear apart my blu-ray to drag down here.

You could always hook up the SD box to the svideo or rca jacks just for recording video from both test

Thanks for testing though, will be ordering a 2nd one plus 2 more HD extenders soon.

Yeah, I think I just bought my second one by default... I'm gonna have to tell him he can't have it back. No heat issues with either unit, they are warm, but not that bad. I have them sitting side by side on the carpet in my office right now, I'll move them to the garage with the cable boxes, and I'm gonna run a USB cable to a Hub through the wall.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I have shows coming up that need to be recorded... I'm also toying with the idea of going with 5 Tuners, 2 HDHR, 2 HD-PVR, and 1 SD Comcast, that way I can set the priority of the SD Channels from Comcast above the HD-PVRs and Showanalyzer will still work fine for those channels. I already own the tuner, it's just a matter of paying the extra fees for an SD box ($4/month, I think)

Yep, add me into the trouble group as well. 1-5 minutes of recording before it freezes.

jrog

great news, now I have to decide if I'll go to 2 of these.

My current tuner lineup in order of merit (highest first)

2 ATSC via HDHR

2 QAM via HDHR

2 SD via coax on a pvr500

1 HD PVR component from a motorolla DCT 6200.

I was going to put the HD PVR in below the QAM, but having only one and because of the comskip shortcomings I did as you mentioned and saved it for last, so it's basically only for shows that are only available via the cable box.

The nice thing with that setup is I'm only paying for cable and one HD box.

Timing was perfect as I've never watched Firefly and a bunch of episodes were being replayed on a cable box only channel this morning. I was having some problems with channel changing, but got those sorted out yesterday (I think) and all seems good now.

Just need support for the HD PVR files and time shifted live TV in the placeshifter client and I'm set.

I have been recording for a day now with the HD-PVR (1080i). Past the initial setup issues, things have been okay so far. I have not had the lockups. However, my unit is in the basement (~70F) and it sits on wooden blocks so there is plenty of air flow around the unit.

I only installed the BETA drivers. I use a USB-UIRT / girder to change channels.

This thing works really really well with the HD extenders.... not so much SageClient. I am currently looking for a CODEC that does not cause Sage to drop so many frames.

One thing to note. The .ts files play in Zoom Player fine (no frame drops) with the Core AVC codec, but the same codec in SageClient is poor.

Spaceghost? Hum, that name rings a bell... oh ya I just recently dusted off my copy of your writeup to get my firewire channel change back up & running. I think that doc will get some new life with the introduction of this device.
Welcome back (sorry to hear about the box but in the end you'll be happy with the results - believe me).

Awesome news jrog! 2 HD-PVRs on one HTPC. It's sort of amazing that we are learning more about this device then the folks at Hauppauge even know themselves isn't it...

jrog - This is terrific news...thanks for being the guinea pig. I guess I'm about to be $250 poorer.

BTW, I'm recording two HD OTA streams with an HDHomerun and using my HD PVR with DirecTV. I'm on a quad core and it doesn't even break a sweat. I plan on adding a second DirecTV tuner in the mix. I already own it but haven't transitioned it over to my new setup yet. I'm really looking forward to four HD streams...that should eliminate most conflicts I'm guessing.

Anyway, thanks again for blazing the trail. I'm right behind you.
