As I'm planning for this device, does anyone know the best place to find out what cable boxes can be controlled via fire wire or serial cable? I'd be okay with the IR blaster thing, but would prefer the other way if its possible.
I'm on TWC if that matters. |

I'm not sure if there is a central location to find out which boxes can be controlled via firewire. If I remember correctly, if you look through the Firewire thread and find the directions for setting it up, there was a text document in one of the files that had a list of all the boxes the driver supported. I'll check to see if I have it handy. That thread can be a little difficult to navigate . Check with TWC, if you haven't already, and see what they offer in an HD box.

New here and haven't been following this product. Just have one quick Question.
1. Since it does H.264 recordings. Is their be a chance that we can record in other formats too? Example. MPEG-2, AVI, Etc... or maybe it's to early to ask question like this since the product is not out yet. |

Ugh, no 5.1 love for the HD Extenders then.

It would be nice if they transcoded 5.1 AAC to AC3. I know when I was using my MVP it would but the channels would be all mixed up coming out of the wrong speakers. So the process is in place it just needs to be fixed and extended to the HD100.

I would guess that AAC encoding is for the analog stereo inputs. If you are using the optical inputs then it probably does not alter the digital audio before muxing it with the video. So, if the channel your recording has DD5.1 audio and your connected via Toslink then you'll get DD5.1 in the recording.
At least thats my guess. S |

17,350 thread views in only 5 days (catching up quick to the original product hint by narflex - 30,725) - pretty good interest in the product I'd say.
Over at the GreenButton reading a similar thread about this product and feeling pretty good about my HTPC software choice |

I've been converting my recordings to .avi to watch on my pocket pc during my commute. I'd love to make the jump to HD but I haven't been able to find an encoder that can convert the sample file into a format my ppc can handle. Has anyone have any luck in finding one or could suggest one?
Thanks |

Ok this thing looks great and here is what I want to do. Could you guys let me know the steps I need to do to make it happen.
Here is what I plan on. 1)Record HD Material on Directv DVR HR20 2)Play back video and the Ham box converts it to h.264AVC and my Vista PC downloads that stream via USB. 3)Then I want to archive these files on a DVD (until Blu Ray Burners drop) that will play back on my PS3 in HD. Will I need to convert these files in a certain way or will a straight Data disk of the files play back on the PS3s blu ray drive in HD? Note I'm not intrested in streaming them to my PS3, but rather a disk archival system that will play back in HD on my PS3. |

Got Invalid format when trying to play. Not sure why it looks to match The Dash board players requirements. Quote:

My guess is they don't do that so that they don't have to pay the fees to Dolby.

You won't be able to just rename it. You'll have to use a tool, like Quicktime Pro or some other program, to re-mux it into a new container.

I know this probably isn't the right place to post this, but I sure with someone from Sage would tell us if the requirements listed by Hauppauge for this are going to be needed if we just want to record and serve the files up to Sage HD Extenders.
I've pre-ordered one on the Hauppauge site and would like to know before it shows up if I've got to build a new server machine before I can use the device. I have no desire whatsoever to play back any files on the server. All viewing is done by the 2 HD Extenders I have. I'm using a P-4 with 1 gig ram and it works fine with 2 PVR 500's (4 SD tuners) and an HDHR (2 HD tuners) all recording simultaneously, one instance of ShowAnalyzer marking commercials on a recording, and playing back at least one HD stream all at that same time. I know that I'm going to have to build a new machine soon, just would like to know if it is NOW. I've been looking for a mobo for quite a while and haven't found anything that will meet my current needs while giving me some growing room for the future. It's hard to find a board that fit those criteria, mostly because of poor design in the legacy PCI area. Seems everyone thinks that putting cap's, chips, connectors, etc between the PCI slot and the edge of the mobo is a great idea. Not so much if you have any intention of using a PVR 500 since they have connectors that go right down to the mobo surface.
