assign learned command to keystroke
I have successfully learned several new commands to my tuning device (directv tivo stb), i.e. guide, enter, etc. using a USB-UIRT and ir blaster. Does anyone know how do I assign these new commands to sagetv keystrokes so I can control these thru sagetv?

If this is the case, then no. SageTV will only send IR commands related to channel change. I suppose you wanted to do this to mimic an universal remote: your press a button on your PC remote control, and your PC is sending back another IR code to your STB using the USB-UIRT. For this you'll need a third party software Girder, EventGhost or my software (see signature). Though you'll have to drop the built-in USB UIRT support of SageTV (the USB-UIRT cannot be shared by proccesses running with a different user account) Regards, Stéphane. |

Expert,
Thanks for the quick response. Yes, I would like to use placeshifter to remotely view and control my direvtivo stb. Is this possible using a 3rd party sw such as girder? I would also like to use sagetv as a media center using an ir remote control to view videos, photos, music, etc. If I use girder to control the stb, can I still use an ir remote to control sagetv as a media center? |

What you need is a remote sofware with both a client and a server. The only one I know that can do this is the IR Server suite that you can find on MediaPortal forums (For Girder, I suppose it can do it). Though I don't know if it works with SageTV. It would have been easier with my software, but right now I do not support a client / server architecture. Regards, Stéphane. |

EventGhost will also do this and backwards (control placeshifter from an MVP) if you like.
As mentioned you will need to have SageTV service and EventGhost running as the same user. Since EventGhost does not run as a service (it's all about local interface session) you will need to have this user account actually logged on. Normally you can just make Sage service run as the user account you use anyway. You will use dynamic menus to execute commands in EventGhost which will be forwarded to the USBUIRT and on to the STB. I do this to control a DVD changer connected to my server but I don't have STBs so I don't need sage to control tuning. If you have issues it will come from having Sage and EventGhost share the USBUIRT. |

Having SageTV issuing commands to the EventGhost installed on the SageTV server is impractical in this situation, what the OP needs instead is a way to remap the remote he use with the PlaceShifter setup to directly control the STB (using the USB-UIRT). If the dynamic menus can be "remote shaped" and be displayed over the STB live video then it is ok, but is it really like this for controlling your DVD changer? |

Thanks for eveyone's input. I think I will just go with a slingbox for remote viewing and sagetv for media center.
