Instant Timer Recording
I'm looking for an Instant Timer Recording function similar to what you use to have on VCRs. This would just let you select a channel and a duration (15, 30, 60 minutes) and start recording.

Go to Schedule Recording-Create Timed Recording in the default STV.

I've done that and in V5 you have to enter the end time instead of the duration. So you have to manually calculate say 25 minutes to the start time. What I'm looking for is the capability to just enter 25 minutes. Maybe this is in V6?

No. You can't enter duration. You can highlight the minutes in the end time and click the up arrow 25 times for your 25 minutes. No calculation required.

Any chance of someone adding this feature in?

I second that!
That was always one of the most welcome features in my VCR. This is especially handy for shows after live sporting events that run over. For example, my wife and I like to watch the Simpsons/King of the Hill/Family Guy/American Dad after the Nascar racing is over. If the race goes over by say 17 minutes I have to manually adjust the start/end times for each of those. This can be a pain. I also like that I can hit the record button on my VCR to add blocks of minutes to the end of my programmed recording for the above mentioned live events. Much easier and less intrusive than the current way of adding minutes.
Another specific example of when that is useful to me is if I am watching CNN HN - 3-5 hour blocks - when something comes on I want to capture I may not want to start the recording from the beginning of the show and/or may not want to capture all the way to the end without playing with start/end times. While this may not seem like a big deal to many people VCR manufacturers thought it was important enough to include. The feature is even on both my Panasonic DVR/DVD recorder and DVD/VCR. So I too am requesting that this be added. |
