Controlling a cable box with the seiral Port????

New to SageTV.

I have a question on controlling a cable box from the cable company to change channels. Is it possible(with Sage) to control the (concast) Motorola digital cable box with the serial port (like TiVo) instead of using the USB-UIRT IR Blaster? I just purchased most of what I need, so I’m still putting everything together and planning part of my PVR. Thank you.
