Java error
Hello,
Anyone done a successful install with fedora 8? I have installed java 1.5.0 and it tests ok, but I get the following error when I run keygen.sh. "error with MAC address detection of: java.io. IOExeption: ifconfig not found." This error also shows up in sagetv_0.txt when I run the server. Also getting Wiz.bin.corrupt files. I've been using sagetv on windows for a while with no problems. I prefer fedora linux and if I can get sagetv working, I can dump windows and be microsoft free at last Any suggestions appreciated. |

I've never has this error personally, but it does look as if java is calling "ifconfig" which is a command line tool to configure your network interfaces. I would see if the user that is running sage, has access to the command, ifconfig, and if not, then run the keygen.sh as root, which should have access to ifconfig.
if you are switching use to root, then be sure to use the 'su -' which will setup the paths correctly. Lastly, if you are not brand loyal, you can try using ubuntu, which has .deb packages available. One final note, not related to your issue, but if you have an existing sage license for windows, then you cannot use that license for linux. Sage's licence is per OS, not per machine.

Make sure your user can execute ifconfig and its output contains an eth0 device. If Sage does not find an eth0 device it will corrupt your Wiz.bin.

You said you were using fedora. One of the most annoying things about fedora (and Red Hat distros in general) is that /sbin is not in a non-root user's path. You might want to add /sbin to your path in your .bashrc:
PATH=$PATH:/sbin:/usr/sbin export PATH source your .bashrc, and try again. Drew |

Do you have a Linux license for SageTV? If not, it won't work because there is no trial for the Linux version of SageTV.

Adding /sbin to the path solved the problem.
