DVD's on hard drive video_ts requirement
I noticed that in the notes of SageTV release 6.3.8 and forward. there is supposedly no longer a requirement to have the video_ts subfolder for SageTV to recognize all those files in the dvd folder as a single DVD.
Quote:
NetworkName\Movies\DVDTitle1\ (with all the dvd files in this single folder) NetworkName\Movies\DVDTitle2\ (with all the dvd files in this single folder) NetworkName\Movies\DVDTitle3\ (with all the dvd files in this single folder) If however I use the old format with the video_ts subfolder as follows, it does see the files as a single movie. NetworkName\Movies\DVDTitle1\video_ts\ (all the dvd files in single folder) NetworkName\Movies\DVDTitle2\video_ts\ (all the dvd files in single folder) NetworkName\Movies\DVDTitle3\video_ts\ (all the dvd files in single folder) So am I missing something or is this not working? I've tried this in the default STV v6.3.10.166 and SageMC 6.3.7a. I did check the latest version of the manual as well and it also says "the video_ts subdirectory is optional" I'm either doing something wrong or this just isn't working. If others agree it isn't working, I'll file a trouble ticket. Thanks, Last edited by Brent; 03-15-2008 at 09:12 AM. |

I'm guessing because I haven't tried it but you may need to remove that import directory and then reimport again so that Sage reads in the new path.

Gerry,
Just tested by deleting two of my video directories and re-adding then reimporting and same result. It doesn't see all of the dvd files as a single movie. Good idea though as I hadn't tried that one. Has anyone else seen this problem? |

I had the same issue. I would put a new movie in the import directory without the VIDEO_TS directory, and had the same problems. I just went back to using the VIDEO_TS folder under the Movie directory to get around the problem...

It works for me. I don't know if there would be an issue where certain DVD file layouts get imported as a DVD using one folder layout & not the other.
Have you tried the default STV to see whether it shows the DVD either way? - Andy

I have been testing with the movie-only dvd files however. In other words only the following files: video_ts.bup video_ts.ifo VTS_01_o.bup VTS_01_o.ifo VTS_01_1.vob VTS_01_2.vob VTS_01_3.vob Any of the extra's were stripped out to save space. I'll try a full rip with no modification just to be sure that isn't an issue... |

You didn't list all the base files that Appendix I shows -- do you have a VIDEO_TS.VOB file?

Actually no. But I don't have a video_ts.vob file on any of my hundred or so other DVD files - as long as those have the video_ts folder they are detected as a single DVD in SageTV. Did this change from the past?

I just listed all the base files in the manaul as a simplification & you don't have one that is needed -- there has to be some way to tell it is a DVD, so the presence of at least the VIDEO_TS.VOB and VIDEO_TS.IFO files is needed when not using the VIDEO_TS folder. I'll ask if that VOB file is a requirement for DVD structure or if there is another way to tell.

I picked a random movie and tried with and without the VIDEO_TS directory on the default STV and SageMC, and it seems to work for all of the test. I had not tried it on 6.3.10, I had tried it when the change was first made and not tried since, so I am assuming it must have been fixed at some point...

Not having the video_ts.vob file does seem to be the issue here. I just tested by adding only that single video_ts.vob and it worked. Not sure why it would be needed when you're not using the video_ts folder and don't need it with the video_ts folder. For informational purposes here's what that file does: VIDEO_TS.VOB. The 'Video [Title Set] Object file for VMG Menu', this file works like a bookmark to tell the player that it is the start of the disc. I'm just guessing (I'll test it next), but I bet you could drop a video_ts.vob file from any DVD into any folder and it would work. |

FYI,
If I take the video_ts.vob file from any DVD and insert it into any dvd folder, that makes SageTV recognize the dvd as a single movie - even when it's not in a video_ts folder. |

From what I've seen, Sage simply needs to see a VIDEO_TS folder (nothing else) to import a "DVD", what's inside didn't appear to matter (of course it would fail to play if lacking the required files). However it appears Sage uses a bit more "robust" detection mechanism if you opt not to use a VIDEO_TS folder.
