Best remote/IR combo?

I am trying to figure out what the best remote/IR combo is for Sage. I'm really starting to miss my old Hauppauge 150 setup that worked out of the box with no problems. But I decided to upgrade to Supposedly “better” equipment and now cannot get it to work.

I have a iMon receiver and remote.
A MCE remote and receiver/transmitter.
A Hauppauge 150 remote (though not the receiver as I'm not using the 150)
A USB-UIRT.
A Harmony One.

I can get the MCE remote to work obliviously but cannot get the transmitter to work, I can get the USB-UIRT to be recognized in Sage but then the MCE remote will not work.

So my question is what is the best way to set this up? Do I have to have the USB-Uirt and the MCE receiver/transmitter connected? Or is there a way to use the MCE/ Hauppauge remote VIA the USB-Uirt or iMon receiver? Also is there a easer way to get the UIRT to work with my DST 505, or do I have to program every single button manually (Which gets old fast)?

IMHO the Snapstream FireFly is the best remote but you would want to use EventGhost or the Sage community add-on to make it work with Sage.

Keep the USBUIRT no matter what!

(or sell it to me really cheap. )

The USB-UIRT will proably be best for blasting and can handle up to 3 distinct zones. Your MCE remote needs to be learned to the USB-UIRT and should function perfectly with that. That's what I used until I got the Harmony. The Harmony works best for the wife and we have an 880 and a 525.

Actually I have a firefly as well, just did not post it here as I did not think I could get it working properly in Sage. Also once I get everything working everything will be mapped to the Harmony One, and I cannot map RF codes to it.

Your MCE remote needs to be leaned to the USB-UIRT
I understand that but what I don't under stand is what software I should be using. I have tyred a dozen none of which work correctly. the closest I came is using HIP, but it only some times works and often acts like I did nothing at all or acts like I pressed 5 buttons at once.

What I don't understand is why SageTV is so limited when it comes to remotes and IR Blasters. I should not have to have a dozen third part programs jsut to use a remote/blaster with SageTV.

I used SageTV, a USB-UIRT and a MCE remote. That was it. I have one setbox and at the time blasting a channel change there. No third party software for what I was doing at the time.

Since you have a USB-UIRT, SageTV is all you really need, unless you want to be able to control other programs with your remote.

SageTV can directly use the USB-UIRT as both a receiver and a blaster.

You can use just about any remote with the USB-UIRT.

Go to Detailed Setup -> Commands -> Remote Control Configuration, select USB-UIRT, then link the remote's buttons to the commands you want.

If the remote uses a toggle code, you will need to assign each button to the same command twice in a row w/o pressing another remote button in between.

Ok sounds easy enough (though time consuming). Just 2 questions:

1. Is there an easy way to clear all the keys at once?
2. Is there an easy way to back up a remote configuration once I set it up?

All the IR codes are stored in the client's properties file, using the ui/rc_mappings/<command name> property lines.

Ok thank you very much. I have evrything working after 2 days .

Only thing I can say is the remote learning system really could use an overhaul. Perhaps with explanations on what each button means, an easer way to wipe buttons, a built in remote settings exporter, and the ability to scroll through the list slower.
