Comskip consistently cutting off little file pieces at the beginning and end...

I was using SA to do my commercial processing but it was choking on some of my files so I tried Comskip. Comskip hasn't crashed on any of the files that were choking Comskip...but now I have two new problems:

The most irritating is that Comskip is cutting off little pieces of the front and back of the majority of my files. SA has a feature that you can tell it not to mark commercials in the first X seconds or last Y seconds of a file...can I get Comskip to do that also?

The other issue is that I've got Comskip writing .edl files...can I get it to not write the .log files? I stopped the .txt by using the output_default=0 parameter...how do I get the log not to be saved?

thanks,

jmv

I have never done this before but there must be a first time for everything.

Did you read the readme.txt file that is in the distribution zip file?
Did you see the min_commercial_break_at_start_or_end parameter?
What is the size of the segments at that and finish being cut of?

Did you read the ini file?
Almost at the top it say's
verbose=10 ;show a lot of extra info, level 5 is also OK, set to 0 to disable
Did you try
verbose=0

I must admit the Comskip documentation needs a big improvement.

thanks for the reply. I did read both the ini and the readme.txt...that being said, the readme is a very dry read and I must admit I skimmed (and missed) the min_commxxx ini...and on the verbose part...I didn't realize that was referring to the .log file output...I thought it was referring to the output when you run comskip in a cmd window...but in retrospect what it does makes sense...thanks.

I'd like to give back in addition to throwing a donation your way. If I took a shot at an .ini tutorial, could you spend some time giving editorial feedback. I would do my best to document all the parameters, and how they work as a standalone to the .ini itself. I would include the parameter, acceptable inputs, and it's influence on the comskip function. I would include a note on what version of comskip the parameter was added. Also, I would include how to automate comskip through Dirmon2 and comskip monitor. If you think this would be a great idea, I'll get cracking...if not, I'll just head to the donate button and be done with it and get back to my commercial free TV

I VERY MUCH welcome your proposal.
My time is limited and better documentation is really needed.
When you have verbose=10 the log file contains a list of all settable parameters in a nice grouping. Would be a good starting point.
The tuning manual I wrote (tuning.htm) has a lot of information but it is outdated after the large amount of improvements I implemented.

Setting the com skip at beginning end parameter to 155 fixed my problem at then end, but I am still getting a "sliver" mark at the end...why is that happening. Here are the pre and post beginning/end fix EDL listsings both still with the "sliver" at 1791.26 which is just slightly before the end of the file.

The "sliver" at the end is a one frame fake commercial that is is used by Comskip for being able to edit the list of commercials after the actual scanning is done.
Look at the generated .txt file and you will see its exactly one frame.
When its a problem I suggest you extend the recording time with 1 second

Erik,

Does Comskip support outputing aspect ratios? Just curious...

check out these threads on the topic for SA:

http://www.dragonglobal.org/forums/showthread.php?t=809

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...postcount=1113

A plugin to handle switching would be awesome... and I like Comskip.... ALOT.

Do you take donations?
