Sage Won't Adjust Audio On Some AC3 AVi's

I have AVI's encoded with x264 video & AC3 audio. They play just fine in windows mediaplayer & I can adjust the audio through WMP. I can play the file in MediaCenter & adjust the audio normally. In SageTV, I can play the video & hear the audio; but, the volume control doesn't do anything!

MP3 audio encoded videos don't have this problem in sage--just the ac3 ones.

I have FFDShow Audio & Video installed. I have AC3Filter Installed. AC3Filter has the highest merit with DSFM. AC3Filter Config is set to use for eveything (PCM, AC3, DTS, MPEG, DVD, SPDIF, etc...)

GraphEdit shows file.AVI out to AVI Splitter. Splitter stream 0 out to ffdshow video to VMR.
Splitter stream 1 out to AC3Filter to Default DirectSound Device.

Any ideas?

thanks!

Just thinking out loud here, but it could be something to do with AC3Filter being set to passthrough for spdif. I would presume that this means whetever audio is created, gets passed straight to the receiver with no alterations whatsoever.

You don't say what you're using to create the sound though. My sage volume does nothing either, but I have mine connected to an Onkyo AV Reciever/Decoder via hdmi. I use this to determin the volume, which is the way it should be in this setup.

John, thanks for the response.

I'm running Vista32bit. Just simple 2ch audio out from soundcard to audio in on the TV. No audio receiver here.

After you mentioned the passthrough, I went in AC3Filter & set my ouput to 2ch (was set to as-is), unchecked 'use spdif', & unchecked all three spdif passthrough options. Sadly, it had no effect...

Any other thoughts?

Talking

Solution found! Just thought I'd share even though it's answer is like many others that have previously been posted.

sage or sageclient.properties files...

always_use_dshow_player=true

I now have complete control of my audio.
