Question SageTV Server Tips For XP??

I'm running SageTV on a headless Windows XP box.. All my viewing is done via the HD100's over a gigabit network.. I'm wondering what is the most efficient way to run sage in this type of setup.

1) SageTV as a service
2) SageTV as a minimized application

3) Processor scheduling.. 'programs' vs. 'background services'
4) Memory usage.. 'programs vs. system cache'

Are there any other windows optimizations to perhaps maximize how Sage uses Windows??

Thanks!

I have the same setup (more clients-2 MVP, HD and 2 PC)but definitely run it as a service. I didn't consider your other optimizations because that is basically all I run on there. SageTV, Comskip monitor, comskip and Nielm's Webserver. I'm curious as to what others have done.

Yea, definitely run it as a service and enable crash recovery. That way if the service crashes for any reason it will restart itself without needing to be done manually. I've had problems lately with my HDHR driver crashing SageTV and the service gets restarted every time. It sucks that it's crashing but at least I know that it will restart and continue without me needing to intervene. I'm hopeful that the last driver update fixed it.

3) If you're running headless, with Sage running as a service and no (or minimal) foreground apps, choose 'background services'.

4) More system cache probably won't help Sage a whole lot, since it does mostly sequential I/O on files that are too big to cache anyway. So I'd go for programs.
