Installation Order

In what order should I install the hardware and software for my computer.

I have a HVR-1600 tuner card.

Should I install the software that came with the card or not?

Should I install the Sage Software before or after installing the card?

I have not used the 1600, but I have used other Hauppauge cards (150 and 150MCE).

You do not need to install all of the Hauppauge software if you plan to use Sage, but you do need to install the drivers. There is a setup for the card itself, a setup for the remote, and a setup for the IR Blaster. I would recommend going through these before you install Sage.

There is some additional software that comes with the Hauppauge card which you may or may not want to install. If this is your first time though, it may be a good idea to just install all of the Hauppauge software and make sure your card is working correctly before jumping into Sage.

The first time you run Sage, it will launch a configuration Wizard which will walk you through most of the setup - ideally you want to have your card and its drivers installed before you go through the wizard.

There have been a lot of posts on this forum by others who have had issues getting the 1600 card to properly find channels, particularly with QAM (Digital Cable). I think a lot of the problems have been corrected with the latest drivers from Hauppauge. So, it would probably be a good idea to check the Hauppauge website for the latest install files rather than just installing off of the CD. If you run into trouble, be sure to search the forum to see what solutions others have posted.
