The benefit of lossless compression is far, far greater than any potential/theoretical difference from 24bit/96kHz sampling, which is way beyond the capabilities of most systems, let alone hearing. |

Looks like the HDMI sound / video cards are finally on the way. And there appears to be an 7.1 analog card for my DVI based AVR.

Just saw this thread. Received my Gigabyte 780G board today with an AMD X2 5000+ 65W CPU (and Blu-Ray drive). Replacing an aging Intel client that struggles with HD. Looking forward to putting it together tonight. HDMI audio is not a concern for me.
Got my DTV receivers scheduled for installation next week. Hopefully will get some good feedback on the HD-PVR on DTV. The Comcast signal has been degrading terribly and figured it was time to make the switch with the good deals around now. |

You mean digital? There have been 7.1 analog cards for years, eg my many year-old M-Audio Revolution 7.1. |

Friends,
I just set up a client with this board for my wife. I originally had it working (I think) with VMR9 using ATI 8.4 and Cyberlink decoders. Now, after I upgraded to the ATI 8.5 drivers and improved 3D gaming by installing a 3450 in Hybrid Crossfire...I get a video playback error whenever I try VMR9/FSE in Vista. Overlay is fine. Going back to 8.4 didn't help. Here's the details: Vista Business with both Aero enabled and disabled/VMR9 = error Overlay works. (with Aero disabled, FSE needs to be on, but that gives an error even in overlay). Cyberlink or NVIDIA decoders VMR9= error Java is 1.6 Update 5 Sage is 6.3.10-6.4.3 still error. The VGA cable is hooked to the 3450's port, Surround View is enabled in the BIOS (for Crossfire). ATI's Video section has Vector Adaptive selected. Think it's the 3450? When I thought it worked, I was running off the 3200's VGA port and had Crossfire enabled with the 3450, but the 3D scores were lower, so I switched. Anyone have Vista/Aero running VMR9 off a 3450 on this board? Thanks. |

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1003579 can either use a 5 channel 100watt/channel amp or a 7.1 preamp card add on card. This is a 780m motherboard though. |
