How well does Live TV work with HD extender?

Hi all,
I got an HVR1800 yesterday, upgraded SageTV and popped it in. Everythings working (other than some channel mapping issues).

I want to ditch the crappy DVR from Cox and I only have a SD Tivo, so I want to use SageTV to record HD QAM shows as well as some SD shows if Tivo is already going to record something.

My SageTV box is in the garage and I ran some Cat5e to the living room where my entertainment center is. So I don't think the above should be a problem.

Another thing I'll want to do is, if Tivo is recording something, watch liveTV through the extender.

My real question is how well does live TV work (SD and / or HD) through the HD media extender?
Is it smooth or are there delays, dropouts, etc?

Thanks for any info.

Live TV or not, everything in SageTV is a recording. SD and HD on the extender is fine for me.

the only delays/dropouts you would have is if your server can't handle what's be asked of it. An advantage of the HD Extender (versus MVP) is that the server doesn't have to do any transcoding...

You must live in California or something.
I could never put a computer in the garage here in Illinois - even a NEBS/ETSI certified machine would never survive the extreme temperatures here.

You called it... San Diego.

Thanks all, I just ordered the Extender and it says it should be here on Monday.
That'll give me enough time to get the channel mapping stuff all sorted out.

Thanks!

Mitch

Same here (Iowa)....after the sub zero temperatures we have had here as of late, I wouldn't even think of it! Not to mention the 100+ degree summer days... That's a solid 120+ degree differences throughout the year.
