Where do you buy your HDMI cables?
I'm sure most people are aware of this already, but paying the outrageous prices that the bigbox stores sell their HDMI cables for is not worth it.
CBC's Marketplace in Canada ran some test's. http://www.cbc.ca/mrl3/8752/marketpl...g_the_deal.wmv

Mike's right, monoprice is the way to go. I get all my cables from them.

I order all of my cables and adapters from them. Shipping is very reasonable via usps priority mail, which is very important out here. Aloha, Mike |

Monoprice even for Canadians
(Seeing as this was a CBC (canada Broadcasting Corp) report)
Monoprice ships USPS and small sub<$40 packages will not incur duty charges. That will buy you a lot of cables. |

Indeed, 50ft, $60, passes 1080p from my HD extender perfectly

Yeah, I have a similar story with a 35 ft one that runs underfloor from my a/v rack to my display. No issues. Some cheap cables have lots of problems, but I have never had issues with monoprice cables, whether it be usb extension cables, network patch cables, or A/V cables. Their stuff just works. You may be able to get a higher quality cable, but not for a low price.

Usually from newegg.com (where I buy just about anything electronic).
One time I tried to buy an HDMI to DVI cable in town. After 3 stores I found nothing but "Monster" label cables, overpriced by nearly a factor of 10!! Some of their practices are borderline illegal IMO. I wish I had a link, but I read a story where they head a head to comparison of a Monster vs other brand cable. The Monster cable was HDMI the "other brand" was S-video! Misleading to say the least. A digital cable either works, or it doesn't. |

I've been very impressed with Monoprice.com also. The last order shipped very fast, prices are great & I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the cables. There's a reason so many people recommend them.

But is it really over priced? Look at the beautiful packaging it comes in!

I was just telling someone that Monster Cables have made a huge mistake by selling HDMI cables for such a high price. One could argue that RCA cables were "Special" if they were Monster, but when we are talking twisted pair, how "special" can they be... for the price, they should send a guy over an plug them in for me. |

I had a friend buy an HDMI cable from best buy (monster probably) and he had problems with it with his TV. I send him to monoprice and he spend under $10 shipped and was MUCH happier with the quality. The other cable probably cost him about $125.

svideo.com is another good source. They have good prices on shorter ones and free shipping.

After hearing about monoprice.com on this forum, I've been buying cables from them too now. I got so tired of looking for spare cables every time something new had to be hooked up, that I even started ordering extra cables every time I placed an order -- I needed a firewire cable the other day & a local store had a 6 foot cable for $30(!) so I decided I could unhook something else until more than enough new cables arrived.
I'm curious, though, whether I've just had bad luck, or whether their fast shipping has problems: 2 out of my 3 orders had missing, wrong, or damaged cables. They wanted photos of the wrong cables, but they did at least ship replacements very quickly. - Andy

When you say "fast shipping", do you mean a more expeditious shipping option? I've always used the cheapest (and there-by slowest) shipping options, and all of my orders have been correct. And cheap!

Just to put another company name out there. Blue Jeans Cable http://www.bluejeanscable.com/
Not as cheap as monoprice, but very nicely built cables. If you want quality interconnects check them out, the connectors they use are top notch. They also offer cheaper cables too, however even their high price HDMI cable is only $18 for a 6foot cable. They offer a chinese made cable for $4.80, note i have not used that one. I have dealt with them a number of times and have always been happy. |
