DVD Playback error -3.0x80070057, decoder works fine..
This is an issue with playing DVD files via a mapped network drive, I get the following error:
THere was a Playback error in Playback. Details: Sage.PlaybackException: Error(-3.0x80070057); There was a problem accessing the filesystem for playback. I've mapped my fileserver to drive Z and tried referencing the diretory in SageTV both by using z:/dir/ and the full server path //192.168.2.9/dir, both produce the same error. To confirm its not the decoder I copied a DVD directory to my local hard drive and tried playing it in SageTV and it worked fine so it has something to do with playing via the network. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. EDIT Having read several other posts I forgot to mention, I'm not running this in service mode, when I look at the process its run as my username. Also, SageTV is able to see all the files, they come up in my 'videos' section, I just can't play them. Sam Last edited by Sizam; 02-24-2008 at 02:35 PM. |

Where did you put it on the local machine that Sage could play it? Where is the rip in relation to "dir/"?

Remote movie directories are like so:
//192.168.2.9/pile/Movies_SD/Matrix/ //192.168.2.9/pile/Movies_SD/Akira etc I just copied one of those directories to the root dir of one of my local drives h:/Matrix and it plays fine. If I map the remote server to z: it still doesn't work, z:/Movies_SD/Matrix for example. Sam |

Is H: an import directory? Plays fine in Sage? Do the DVD have all the files present (VIDEO_TS.IFO, *.IFO, *.VOB, etc)?

As a temporary test I made H: an import dir and put the DVD directory there to play it, and it played, then I removed H:. Yes, the file directory has all the necessary files:
VIDEO_TS- --BUP, VOB, IFO Otherwise it probably wouldn't play on my test H drive. (Thanks for the quick reply) Sam |

Being *NIX oriented I'm trying to rule out permissions problem. So I've changed the 'owner' of the entire /pile/ directory to be my windows username, the unix permissions (on the server) to be 777 and in the 'security' dialog in windows set the permissions for 'Everyone' to be 'Full Control'. Still doesn't work, but that pretty much rules out permissions.

You running Sage as a service? Is it setup as a user/password? The LocalSystem account can't access network shares.

I don't think its running as a service. I manually start it by double clicking on the application and in the task manager the user its running under is my username. I checked my list of 'services' and SageTV is in there but its not running (its 'stopped') so I'd say I'm running it as myself.
Also, if SageTV couldn't fully access the share then I would assume it wouldn't be able to 'read' the directories at all, ie they wouldn't appear in my list of videos with their cover images. Are there any log files anywhere to better track this down? Sam |

Can you play the DVDs with another app from the share? The only time I've seen Sage do something like this is when my rip was missing the VIDEO_TS.IFO file.

Yes,
PowerDVD 7 Ultra can play the movies just fine via the share. As I mentioned before, if I copy the folder over to a local drive it plays just fine (so the file structure must be ok). I'm trying to turn on logging to get more info but am so far failing (Vista), i'm not getting the sagetv_0.txt files. EDIT: Ok, i had to run SageTV as an administrator for it to create log files (thats lame). Sam Last edited by Sizam; 02-24-2008 at 04:54 PM. |

Well as a lame temp solution I've told SageMC to 'use external DVD application' and pointed it at using PowerDVD to play the files. This works out but I'd rather standard def DVDs play through SageTV so my wife can watch TV show DVDs seamlessly.

I don't know, basically that means that Sage can't access one (or more) of the files it's looking for. It sounds like a permissions problem.
What exactly is your configuration, client, server? Does the user Sage is running as have an account on the media server? |

The configuration is I'm running SageTV locally on my HTPC, I'm not using the SageTV client/server. My fileserver is a Solaris Express box with a 10x500GB RAIDz2 partition mounted via CIFS. I too am tempted to say its a permissions issue but now that the entire mount is 777 (anybody can do anything) and in windows 'Everybody' has full access it seems unlikely, especially since PowerDVD and other applications can read the files. Course, I'm going to reset the permissions so that its a little more secure now that it appears the permissions don't change anything.

Sizam,
Did you ever find a solution? I have the same issue with basically the same setup.

I'm in the same boat. SageTV running on XP, DVDs work OK on HD2000 and on extender but same error on Vista Client PC.

The path to the DVD must be identical on the client to what the server sees.

I'm having this problem all of a sudden.
My DVD storage drive is mapped to G: on an XP Sage Server (no service mode), and G: on my XP Sage Client. When I reboot the Sage Client PC, if I go into Windows and double click on the G: drive, Sage will play the DVD's fine. If I don't double click on the G: drive, sage gives me the same error as the OP had. To my memory when I mapped the network shortcuts I clicked on the box labeled 'Reconnect at logon". it just seems as if Sage don't think there is a G: drive until I manually open the G: folder. Not very user friendly.... Any suggestions?

Don't use mapped drives, use UNC paths.

My server has a fixed internal IP of 192.168.1.201 - should I use the name \\MEDIA, or the IP address?
Would the direct IP be a little more reliable?
