Skipping while paused with PureVideo
Here's an issue I'm having with recent Nvidia drivers. Using the PureVideo decoder, pause video playback and then use the Skip Forward and Skip Backward commands.
With ForceWare version 94.24 and earlier, this works correctly, i.e. the displayed video frame updates to the correct point in the timeline with each skip.
With later versions, including the current 169.21, it does not work correctly; that is, the skip command skips to the right point in the timeline, but the displayed image does not update until playback resumes. (Or if it does, it's to some semi-random point in the timeline.) This is a major annoyance, since it makes it impossible to know when you've found the place you're looking for without un-pausing.
Up to now I've worked around this by just sticking with the 94.24 drivers. Every couple of months I update to see if it's been fixed, and if it hasn't, I roll back to the earlier driver version.
I've also tried downloading a trial version of the Cyberlink decoder to see if that made a difference. It didn't.
How are other people dealing with this? Is there some trick to getting the later driver versions to skip properly while paused? Is it some quirk of my particular graphics hardware (7900GT)? Or do people just not use the skip functions while paused?
Thanks for any insights anyone can offer.
