Passive cooling

I am almost ready to start using SageTV full time. I have been using my main computer as a test bed and am starting to look at the permanent hardware for use on the TV,

Has anyone been able to use passive cooling with a large slow moving case fan?

My current system uses an AMD Dualcore 4200 and a good sized cpu heatsink and fan, and an Nvidia 7600GX PCIe video card. I will more than likely use the same setup for the real thing since it is working great on my desktop, but I would like to use a large heatsink with a few case fans that can move slower and still cool it all down..

I am also interested in any suggestions for small cases and small form factor motherboard recommendations.

Thanks

Brian

Personally I'd go with a HD extender when they're back in stock and tuck the server away somewhere. I spent a lot of time and money trying to get my HTPC quiet enough to satisfy me and was never happy. I now have an extender and love the fact that it has no moving parts to generate noise.

See my specs below for my client pc. Even though the case has 2 120mm fans, they rotate very slowly and you cannot hear them. My CPU is passively cooled (scythe mini ninja), and onboard video means no gpu fan.

spartan,

that is what I am looking to do, large fans that run slow should run quiet. I am in the process of setting up a NAS to serve all the music, photos and videos.

have you had any trouble with this setup at all???

Thanks

Brian

I did have to spend some time to get the HD to playback nicely from the server, but eventually got that figured out. My biggest problem right now is when I start the client PC, SageTV comes up, then minimizes which kills the full screen exclusive mode.

I have to then dig out the keyboard, kill the process and the try icon, and restart sage. That really doesn't bother me enough to do anything about it -- yet...
